Preview: Rob Sato – “Curses” @ Martha Otero Gallery

Opening on Saturday, September 20 is the first solo show by gallery artist Rob Sato at Martha Otero. The LA-based artist will exhibit to his home-town audience mainly works on paper, but will also include baseballs (he played the sport as a kid) and sketchbooks. The presentation will tie personal, fictional, and historical narratives that the artist processes into his own visual aesthetic to explore his own ideas of memory, space, and time. Showing: Kelly Vivanco – “Peculiar Tides” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Yesterday, AM stopped by Thinkspace Gallery to take a look at the new body of work from Kelly Vivanco. Entitled Peculiar Tides, the fresh paintings worked off a nautical theme where her characters are situated in seaside or underwater environments. Completing the whimsical nature of the show was an installation of ship sculptures (seen above) on a wall of waves, where some of the creatures seen in her work can be seen piloting the vessels. Gary Baseman x Coach Spring 2015 Line

After opening and closing a comprehensive retrospective (covered) at the MOCA Taipei, Gary Baseman (interviewed) moved on to revealing his latest project. At the recent Fashion Week New York, Coach unveiled their new Spring 2015 RTW collection which featured the Los Angeles-based artist’s imagery. The line included his signature creatures emblazoned on bags, used on prints and repeating patterns, and even knitted into sweaters. Previews: Aron Wiesenfeld – “Solstice” @ Arcadia Contemporary

Continuing his long collaboration (also see 2011, 2012) with New York’s Arcadia Contemporary, Aron Wiesenfeld will be opening a show soon at their Soho location. Entitled Solstice, the new body of work from the San Deigo-based painter will further gift his fans with paintings filled with his haunting and powerful imagery. Along with the opening on September 18th, Wiesenfeld will also be at the gallery on the 20th to sign his new 120 page monograph – The Well. Discuss Aron Wiesenfeld here.
