Releases: Amy Sol – “Water Dragon” Print

Amy Sol (interviewed), who has a Los Angeles solo coming up in March, is also releasing a new print appropriately in this new year of the dragon. The image, Water Dragon, is from a piece she did for the the New Moon group exhibition early last year and will be reincarnated as a limited edition giclee (edition 50) scheduled for release tomorrow, January 28th, at 2pm pacific time in her online store. Openings: Thinkspace Gallery @ Affordable Art Fair (Los Angeles)

Over the weekend, the Affordable Art Fair opened Los Angeles including a booth for one of the galleries exhibiting work – Thinkspace Gallery. Videos: Tim Biskup for Mastodon’s “Dry Bone Valley” Music Video

Continuing to show an appreciation for a genre of art that AM also appreciates, Mastodon recently released their Tim Biskup (featured) directed Dry Bone Valley music video from their album The Hunter (which featured cover design from A.J. Fosik). The video which premiered on Boing Boing, also featured animation and the signature pixelated creatures from the LA-based artist. Discuss Tim Biskup here.

Releases: “Planet of the Apes” Print Series

For the Planet of the Apes fans out there, Mondo will be releasing a series of posters created with this classic movie franchise in mind. Artists tapped to participate include Martin Ansin, Ken Taylor, Rich Kelly, Phantom City Creative and Florian Bertmer. The release (as a set) will happen online at a random time today, January 26th and individually on January 27th. Over the weekend, Corey Helford presented new work by artist Eric Joyner (interviewed). The exhibition featured a collection of paintings that blended the artist’s attraction to classic sci-fi motifs with a sense of the mundane which often referenced the use of donuts. Other competing factors in his visual imagery include the use of landscapes and the natural environment. Almost a year and a half out from his last showing at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, LA-based artist Alex Gross (interviewed) will return with a new body of work entitled Product Placement in February. Fusing his special blend of Victorian and Asian references, this collection of paintings for New York will feature commentary on consumer culture. Openings: “Obey Your Master: A Metallica Tribute” @ Exhibit A

Last Friday, Exhibit A opened up its gallery doors to a multitude of artists all paying tribute to the legendary heavy metal band Metallica. Titled Obey Your Master, the exhibit featured artists such as Shepard Fairey, Travis Louie, David Stoupakis, Nicola Verlato, Brian Viveros, and Richard Villa III just to name a few.
