It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen a major show from Glenn Barr. Openings: “Flight & Fable” @ Corey Helford Gallery

A couple Saturdays ago, a trio of artists opened up their joint show in Culver City at the Corey Helford Gallery. Featuring the talents of Krista Huot, Isabel Samaras, and Sarah Folkman, the exhibition entitled Flight & Fable was so named because of the works of Huot features her signature take on fairy tales while Samaras and Folkman both incorporated birds and elements of flight in their new paintings. Videos: POW WOW Hawai’i 2011 Part II

Highlights: ArtPadSF, San Francisco

San Francisco, last weekend, hosted a slew of fine art fairs around the city. One noteworthy fair was the inaugural edition of ArtPadSF (held at the legendary Phoenix Hotel in the Tenderloin), which focused mainly on Bay Area galleries that feature contemporary and emerging art. Each room of the hotel featured a different gallery’s display and the lounge played host to panel discussions on art. 3D Art Book Signing @ Opera Gallery

AM recently attended a special signing party for the 3D Art Book (previewed) hosted at the Opera Gallery in New York. As we turn our attention to June, one of the highlights for us will definitely be the pairing of Greg Simkins (featured) and Lola (featured) at Yves Laroche opening June 8th. Openings: Dave MacDowell – “Lowbrow Love Letter” @ Thinkspace

Last month, besides hosting Jacub Gagnon’s (interviewed) joint show with Yosuke Ueno, Elements and Oddities (covered), Thinkspace also presented the work of master satirist Dave MacDowell.  As he intimated to us in an interview before the show opened, the new body of work, Lowbrow Love Letter was a lighthearted riff on the entire movement’s imagery and artists (you can see his Mark Ryden and Chet Zar inspired paintings above).
