Openings: Alex Lukas – “The Eventuality of Daybreak” @ Glowlab

We recently stopped by Glowlab in NYC to check out “The Eventuality of Daybreak,” the new body of work from Alex Lukas. The solo exhibition from the Philly-based artist revealed a batch of works that highlighted desolate apocalyptic landscapes of major cities which depict a possible near future where these metropolises are literally submerged through coastal flooding. Alex works with various techniques including acrylic, ink, silkscreen, gouache to get his images and points across. The work was not only intricately put together, but also reasonably priced. Streets: Poster Boy x The Decapitator

Things have been pretty quiet for Poster Boy since his show with the Neo-Con Collective at the Carmichael Gallery in April (covered). But, a couple new pieces have shown up in New York where he teamed up with the Decapitator to “modify” a some phonebooth ads. Another example of how they feel about advertising after the jump.

Openings: Deth P. Sun – “Please Be Brave” @ Giant Robot 2

Last weekend, Deth P. Sun (fresh off his Giant Robot Biennale exhibition), opened “Please Be Brave,” a new body of work at Giant Robot 2 on Sawtelle Street. The centerpiece of the show was this fantastic assemblage (above) made up of individual 5″ x 5″ paintings. Not only does this make each piece affordable but also allows a collector to put together their own combination at home from selected pieces. More images after the jump…

If you are near Pasadena tonight, you might want to stop by the Switcheroo x Flopdoodle Holiday Party put on by Tim Biskup, Amanda Visell, and Michelle Valigura. Fresh off his big show last weekend, Biskup is back in action – this time with collaborative sculptures with Visell – the centerpiece of the night, a “HelperCentaurEphunt” (seen after the jump) limited edition wood figure. Tonight is the opening of artist and illustrator Yoko Tanaka’s show at David B. Smith Gallery – part of a three person show with Katherine Guillen and Andrea Offerman. We have long admired Tanaka’s fanciful landscapes and her charming anthropomorphic animals, of which there are plenty in this new body of work. Much anticipated show The Thousands (previewed) opened with great success on Wednesday, November 18th. From the outdoor murals gracing the exterior of Village Underground to the thoughtfully curated collection of artwork within, RJ Rushmore’s debut exhibition highlights some of the strongest representatives of the street art scene. Openings and Benefit: Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary Auction & Party

The much anticipated Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary party (previewed) went off this past Saturday and drew over 2,000 art lovers to the newly remodeled Factory Place Arts Complex in downtown Los Angeles. Mister Cartoon had all his classic rides out on display in the outside area as well as a beautiful chopper and his show-stopping pimped out Ice Cream truck inside with the rest of the art on display.
