Teaser: Paul Insect @ Fifty24SF Gallery

AM friend Rhinomilk sent some pics of setup for the Paul Insect show at Fifty24F Gallery for our readers to peruse.  This show, his first solo in the States, is entitled “Idea of Freedom” and will open tomorrow night in SF. “The exhibition aims to bring to our attention how our ‘idea of freedom’ is simply a facade for technology’s overbearing reach into our everyday lives and happiness. How ‘hope’ is measured by new emails and updates on our favorite blogs and sex sites. How […]

Setup: The Drawing Room @ Thinkspace

What were you doing on election night? While America was eagerly waiting for “Change”, Audrey Kawasaki was busy doing some change of her own. Audrey brought her whole drawing room from home and dropped it off inside Thinkspace Gallery for her show (previewed) this Friday.  AM decided to stop by to take some pictures of the installation process to share with our readers … more after the jump.

Ron English Abraham Obama Bust

Got an email this morning from Mindstyle about the release of Ron English’s Abraham Obama Bust. Along with Shepard Fairey’s work, the Obama x Abraham Lincoln remix by English would probably be one of the top two most iconic Obama images out there. There will be multiple colorways released with each one limited to 50. More info after the jump.

Preview: The Drawing Room @ Thinkspace

Just like how the bridesmaids aren’t suppose to be more beautiful than the bride at a wedding, Audrey Kawasaki appears to be making sure she’s not going to be upstaged at at her own drawing show. Curated by Audrey, “The Drawing Room” (teased) opens this Friday, November 7th at Thinkspace Gallery. She’s submitting around a dozen works on both paper and wood including this amazing die-cut piece seen above. To our knowledge, this is the first time she has used this technique. Judging from the […]

Openings: Ron English @ Shooting Gallery

Ron English’s show “The Secret History of KISS” (previewed) opened last weekend at the Shooting Gallery. He took the band’s trademark face paint and melded it with baroque era-styled paintings for an unexpected effect. It’s like he used a time machine, took Rembrandt hostage, and forced him to add the iconic makeup to his paintings. This show also reminded us as to how amazing and versatile Ron’s technical skills are. More photos after the jump.

Preview/Interviews: Jeremiah Ketner @ Melanie Cooper Gallery

One of the shows we are looking forward to this weekend is Jeremiah Ketner’s “Morning Showers” opening on November 7th at the Melanee Cooper Gallery in Chicago.  Ketner has really taken his work to another level with his recent shift to focusing on a central character and a mastery of his distinctive color palette.  There really seems to be a comforting sense of balance to his compositions in this new body of work.  He was gracious enough to take some time to answer some questions […]

Streets: Faile UK

Looks like some new work has been spotted on the east end of London (smithfield to leonard street, sclater street, and brick lane) as Faile is busy preparing for the opening of their show on November 7th.  Nice to see their new images used on the street level. More photos after the jump.
