Last night, the prodigal Josh Keyes returned to his home state of Washington and brought the heavy artillery. AM got the scoop from the completely SOLD-OUT show at OKOK Gallery in Seattle. Looks like an emerging artist that we have been following, Melissa Haslam, has landed a show in LA. She opened in a group show called “Blender” last night at the new combined Cerasoli-LeBasse Gallery in the artsy Culver City district. The new gallery is a merge between Project: Gallery and the Cerasoli Gallery (formerly The Lab 101) and hopefully will help this Australian artist have more exposure to U.S. collectors. Brendan Monroe’s show “Dwindle to a Tiptoe” (previously previewed) with Evah Fan just opened last Thursday in Paris. One of our favorite artists, Travis Louie, is opening a three-person show tonight at the Shooting Gallery. Louie’s technique must be quite complicated as he is able to paint photorealistic images of his imaginary creatures. Openings: KMNDZ & Ekundayo @ Thinkspace

Judging from the crowd that showed up for the opening, KMNDZ & Ekundayo careers are going in an opposite direction when compared to the stock market right now.Â Luckily we got there early and took some quick pics before it got too packed.Â The two artists spent several days completely transforming Thinkspace and their hard work definitely paid off. Entering the gallery was like entering into their own little post-nuclear apocalyptic world. More pics after the jump.

Along with Aya Takano and Chiho Aoshima, Ai Yamaguchi was one of the young, up-and-coming female Japanese artists involved in Takashi Murakami’s Tokyo Girls Bravo exhibition in 1999. Unlike the other two, however, Yamaguchi severed her connection with Kaikai Kiki and went her own way. Since then, she has done quite well for herself, showing her Japanese animation-style depictions of Edo-period geishas at galleries around the world, publishing beautiful silkscreen prints and collaborating with the Japanese cosmetics brand Shu Uemura. Arrested Motion first encountered the luscious and colorful work of Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes at an art fair a few years ago and naively mistook it for that of Ryan McGinness. But where McGinness’ work is graphic, Milhazes’ is decorative; where McGinness’ work is based in the mind, Milhazes’ is based in the heart. Banksy’s “Pop-Up” store in New York

Rumors about a upcoming Banksy NYC show had slowed down the past few days… that was until Banksy dropped a bomb on us and updated his Web site announcing a “pop up” store in Greenwich Village. The store, which actually opened a few days ago, according to Wooster Collective, is called “The village pet store and charcoal grill“. The store contains no paintings or prints, but instead animatronic installations of strange and wonderful animals, the likes of which only Banksy could imagine. In addition, our […]
