Currently in Brussels, Isaac Cordal’s show entitled La Comédie humaine is on view at La Médiatine. The series of sculptures and installations continues to document the lives of the little cement businessmen that the Spanish artist is known for, mirroring his work on the streets. It’s always interesting so see how the sculptor from Galicia uses the indoor space as he is able to expand on his public art with larger scale installations that further explore his satire and commentary on politics, bureaucracy, power, and environmental issues. Streets / Recap: POW! WOW! Worcester

A couple weeks ago, POW! WOW! Worcester welcomed in artists from 8 different countries as well as locally from Massachusetts. In association with the event, there were gallery shows and other activities, but the main draw was the live painting (like in other POW! WOW! events around the world). Galería Javier López & Fer Francés are starting their new exhibition season with a new show by Todd James entitled We Are One. For the American artist otherwise known as REAS, his third solo ever in Madrid will open on the 15th of September, exactly three years after his last exhibition there (covered), and six years since his first showing with the gallery (covered). Today, Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan will be opening the #present #past #sentiment #dust solo by Eron. For this exhibition, the Italian artist prepared a series of never-before-seen works consisting of mixed media on paper, spray paint on canvas, and sculptures. Last week, Joshua Liner Gallery became the venue for Wayne White’s new solo entitled I’M HAVING A DIALOGUE WITH THE UNIVERSE AND YOU’RE JUST SITTING THERE. Transforming the New York showspace by taking over the walls with sculptural cutouts and murals, he then strategically embedded his paintings in place to complete the effect. The artist known for his witty word paintings (and his set and puppet designs for Pee-wee’s Playhouse) even transformed sections into what looked to be huge vintage painting – just like the ones he overlays his text onto. To celebrate 110th anniversary of influential architect Philip Johnson’s birth and the 10th anniversary of his iconic Glass House being open to the public, Yayoi Kusama was invited in to create three installations at the historic house museum in Connecticut. Previews: Mark Dean Veca – “New Works” @ JAUS

On September 16th, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) will be opening a two person show (along with Kiel Johnson) in Los Angeles at JAUS. Veca will be contributing some acrylic on canvas works that take his signature pop culture inspired imagery for a twirl. By twisting his subject matter, created with his signature patterns, into clusters of repeating motifs, he seems to bringing further abstraction to his aesthetic. Discuss Mark Dean Veca here.

With the end of another week of summer (good weather for outdoor mural painting), it’s time for another Streets World Roundup. Leading things off are these two murals seen above from Shok-1 and Marina Zumi for the Lollapalooza Berlin Festival. Nuart ’16 / Openings: “Post-Street Art” @ Tou Scene

After days of preparation, the central event of each year’s Nuart Festival was held on Saturday, the 10th of September. On view was a group show by participating artists titled Post-Street Art was in the tunnels of Tou Scene. Like in the past, the space of the former brewery was divided between the artists, some sharing the rooms with collaborative installations and some showing works by themselves.
