Streets: Pejac (Tokyo)

After stopping in Hong Kong (covered) and Seoul (covered), Pejac finished his Asian tour with the most anticipated part of his trip – Tokyo. In his previous works, the Spanish artist has often used elements from Japanese culture, so it was very interesting to see how the land of the cherry blossom, samurais, etc will inspire him. While mostly focusing on paying respect to their tradition and rich culture, some of the works he created pointed out some negative aspects of modern Japan. During his stay in the Japanese capital, Pejac […]

Showing: Jan Kalab – “Extra” @ Villa Pelle

On the 29th of June, Jan Kalab (featured) opened his ninth solo show at the Villa Pelle in Prague, showing pieces created exclusively for this event. After introducing his art at fairs worldwide, this was an opportunity to put his work on display in his homeland. The Czech artist uses a lot of geometry elements and pure, bright colors in creating his pieces, which often blur the distinction between art and design. His minimalist visual language has been affected by his graffiti work, when minimalism was a necessity. […]

Showing: John Knuth – “Nothing Without Providence” @ David B. Smith Gallery

You may remember awhile back, we shared a video from artist John Knuth and his unique form of markmaking. By feeding houseflies pigments and then allowing them to run through part of their life cycles on canvas on site at the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver, the Los Angeles-based artist was able to create some abstract paintings through his little assistants’ labor. Nothing Without Providence, a reference to the Colorado state motto, runs through July 10th.

Previews: Jonathan Yeo – “Exposure” @ Circle Culture Gallery

Opening on the 10th of July, Exposure will be Jonathan Yeo’s second show with Circle Culture Gallery and the first time he is showing works in Hamburg. The exhibition will primarily consist of his infamous Leaf Works, created using the artist’s distinctive form of pornographic collage. Yeo started the this series in 2008, displaying them in New York and Los Angeles, but this show will be the first, and possibly the last time these pieces are shown together as a coherent body of work. The idea behind these works […]
