Showing: Barry McGee / Clare Rojas @ Alessandra Bonomo Gallery

Artist couple Barry McGee and Clare Rojas are currently having a joint show at Alessandra Bonomo gallery in Rome. The exhibition consists of a variety of new works created and installed exclusively for the gallery’s space, including paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptural objects. Rojas continues to transform her figurative imagery, often inspired by Eastern European, Amish or Native American tradition, into a series of sharp geometrical forms. For his part, McGee presents his usual scope of styles, ranging from minimalist interventions on found objects to sculptures […]

Streets: Vhils (Los Angeles)

Over the last several days, Vhils (filmed) has been busy working his magic in downtown Los Angeles with some new murals arranged by LeBasse Projects. The last time we saw him in the area was in 2011 when we have the chance to catch some of the footage of his unique mark-making in the streets. This newest piece features the Portuguese artist’s portraiture chiseled into this wall near Chinatown as per his usual technique. Check out more in-progress photos below… Photo credit: Birdman Photos for Arrested Motion. Discuss Vhils here.

Previews: Marco Mazzoni – “Immune” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Marco Mazzoni will be opening his first solo exhibition with Thinkspace gallery on Saturday, November 8th. Titled Immune, this show will introduce pencil on paper works that are strongly inspired by Sardinian myths and tradition, and in this particular case, by a human’s endurance of pain. Working with a medium that is often considered unsophisticated, Mazzoni creates soft, dreamy images, putting great attention to details, and achieving fantastic gradation and light effect. Along with larger faceless portraits of female herbalists and healers from 16th century, the Italian artist […]

Upcoming: Kris Kuksi – “Antiquity in the Faux” @ Mark Moore Gallery

Coming up on November 15th, Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles will be opening their second showing (see 2012) with Kris Kuksi and his insane mixed-media assemblage works. Antiquity in the Faux will once again give his fans in SoCal the chance to admire his beautifully grotesque compositions that take a variety of disparate items – figurines, model parts, collectibles, craft parts, and jewelry – and arranges them in a way to tell a intricate story. Oftentimes these narratives involve struggle, conflict, faith, sexuality, and power surrounding a central figure and spreading to […]
