Nychos For Volvo Art Session

Volvo Art Session is live art project taking place in Zurich’s main railway station that finds “selected Swiss and international artists applying their creativity to a Volvo car” The organizers of the event invited Nychos as one of the artists for their fourth year of the event. One month after his one night show at Kinfolk’s new 94Wythe space in NYC, for which he painted 72 different 12 x 12″ pieces, Sam Friedman opened his solo at the Library Street Collective in Detroit. Titled Easy, the show opened on the 10th of May and featured a new body of work by the young abstract painter. Tonight in Northampton, Massachusetts, William Baczek Fine Arts will be opening a new show from Travis Louie (interviewed). The exhibition will see the New York-based artist returning to the site of his showing in the area in 2012, and will feature a new body of work collectively entitled Before They Became Heroes or Villains. Featuring his surreal band of misfits and monsters dressed in proper Victorian attire, the paintings are rendered in acrylic but amazingly look like vintage photos. Streets: Space Invader (Tokyo)

Legendary street artist Space Invader is back in Tokyo where he is preparing for the Japanese premiere of his ART4SPACE movie (covered), in collaboration with Target Gallery. This 45 minute movie shows the making of one of his most elaborate and unique projects – sending up one of his tiled pieces into space. Openings: Miaz Brothers – “Dematerialized: A New Contemporary Vision” @ Lazarides

Italian contemporary painters Miaz Brothers recently debuted their soldout UK solo exhibition at Lazarides Rathbone titled Dematerialized: A New Contemporary Vision. The show features a selection of large portrait paintings from their Antimatter series, utilizing the layering of spraypaint to create a special blurry effect. Upon close look, the paintings look abstract, but from a distance, portraits are revealed. A selection of sculptures are also on display. The show runs until June 15th. Photo credit: Butterfly.

Releases: Pejac – “Sepukku” Screenprint

Spanish artist Pejac whose diverse works we introduced recently (Art Focus), just announced a release of his limited edition print. The large image titled Sepukku is features a silhouette of a Japanese samurai, performing Seppuku or Hara-Kiri, a form of ritual suicide by disembowelment, by using a Sakura branch (cherry blossoms). This image was originally created as an acrylic and oil on canvas, and painted with a minimalist color palette, one of the artist’s signature elements.
