Pete Fowler recently opened a solo show at the infamous The Book Club in London. Titled Theme From Boat Weirdos, the show features new paintings and drawings as well as the site specific installation/mural, as a sequel to his previous solo show at Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds earlier in the year. Often inspired by music, folklore, myths, psychedelia and the supernatural, Fowler prepared a whole series of acrylic portraits of his ocean related bohemes for the show ranging from ex-rock stars, beach bums and other weirdos that are living on the […]

Openings: Brian Adam Douglas (Elbow-Toe) – “How to Disappear Completely” @ Andrew Edlin

Last month, AM paid a visit to the Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York to take in a new solo show from Brian Adam Douglas (interviewed), otherwise known as Elbow-Toe. Utilizing a painstaking process involving shards of cut paper in place of brush strokes, the resulting art works are amazingly textural and complex. These new pieces deal with the aftermath of natural catastrophes and the rebuilding of life and purpose that must take place. In addition the collage pieces, Elbow-Toe has also included some drawings in this new body of […]

Rewind: Oct 7 – Oct 13

It’s been quite a while since our last Rewind feature, so it’s high time we bring you some videos. Starting things off is an explicit new music video from  Tyler, The Creator entitled Tamale. Other notable videos: An interview with Anthony Lister at Wynwood Miami last May. ROA, Phlegm and others recreate famous Baroque paintings. RuPaul drives […]

Streets: Gaia (Kingston, NY)

Not long after finishing his big installation at Rice University Art Gallery, prolific artist Gaia is back on the streets focusing on a new mural in Kingston, NY for the O+ Festival, a very unique event in which artists exchange their contributions for health and wellness services from art-loving doctors, dentists, and other medical providers. Gaia painted a massive, six story wall with Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt and fertility in the center of it. This powerful female figure is represented through a marble statue that is emerging from […]

Streets: DALeast (Spain)

On his recent travels around the world, Chinese born artist DALeast (interviewed) stopped recently in Malaga, Spain, to leave his mark for the Malaga Maus project. Always up for pushing his work and technique, the artist decided not to place his mural on a flat wall, but used the architectural challenges of the place. The result is a magnificent mural titled Abiding in The Broken Heart which is showing a giant black bird with lots of smaller birds flying out of it. With his unmistakable line work, […]
