Streets: Os Gemeos & Aryz (Poland)

Most fans of street art have be following the creation online of the Os Gemeos and Aryz collaboration mural in Poland over the last several weeks. Steve “ESPO” Powers’ (featured) recently opened a solo show in New York for the first time in seven years and it was a doozy. As mentioned in our studio visit (here & here), this new body of work entitled A Word is Worth A Thousand Pictures was fresh and to the point in a manner that is simply ESPO-esqe. Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “New Work” @ Mark Moore Gallery

Just this last weekend, the NY-based Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) opened a new showing at the Mark Moore Gallery. Bringing with him several tondos as well as his irregularly shaped canvases, Matsu filled the project room with a juxtaposition of eastern and western imagery. Mixing things up, the new body of work also included two works on paper that he placed on a hand-painted wall as well as a re-cast of a 18th century erotic Chinese porcelain figure (customized for the Los Angeles area) that he encased in resin. Just a little update for the Bäst fans out there. The NY-based street artist has teamed up with Greek olive oil brand Eléia to create a special edition bottle available for purchase exclusively at Dean & Deluca. This screen-printed bottle was only produced in an edition of 500, and features Bäst’s signature style using iconic imagery. Our Streets: World Roundup returns this week with this collaborative mural from Serbian twins Sobekcis and Zoer at the top of the list. The wall was painted on the westside of Copenhagen on a street called Sdr. Boulevard. Thanks for Henrik Haven for the photo. Coming up in October, Shepard Fairey (featured) returns to the StolenSpace Gallery in London for a solo show entitled Sound and Vision. The name of the exhibition is taken from the song of one of his favorite musicians David Bowie and embodies one of the greatest inspirations for Shep’s art – music. Festival Images (Switzerland)

Starting this weekend in Vevey, Switzerland, the Festival Images kicks off with a series of outdoor and indoor projects as well as associated programming. If you remember, the event (held biannually) was anchored by the Unframed project in 2010 from French street photographer JR. This year, he’s back with Shoot, a giant photo booth creating images for his Inside Out endeavor where participants have to lay down to have their portrait shot (see photostream) and then seeing their photo drift down over 42 feet.
