Moore – Paris (source), Remed (Italy), Joe Iurato – New York (source), Mesa (Greece), Zilda (Italy), David Roberts – Toronto (source), Cope2 & Flying Fortress (New York), Dimitris Taxis (Athens), and […]

Rewind: June 18 – June 24

Another weekend, another Rewind feature here on AM. Leading off our summary of videos this week is the inspiring story (from The Guardian) of Syrian cartoonist Ali Farzat, who founded Syria’s first satirical weekly, Ad Domani. In August 2011, he was attacked by Bashar al-Assad’s militia who broke his hands to stop him from drawing Assad. Farzat was later awarded the European parliament Sakharov prize for freedom of thought. Olek sells cellphones to pay her legal bills (via Hyperallergic). Upcoming: Brett Amory – “Dirty Laundry” @ Thinkspace

After a showing earlier this year in the UK, Brett Amory (featured) returns stateside for a joint showing at the Thinkspace Gallery with Adam Caldwell. Entitled Dirty Laundry, the Oakland-based Amory will be contributing more of his signature hazy snapshot paintings of random moments in time of anonymous people. Stop by August 4th if you are in the LA area to check out the new work. Photo credit: Shaun Roberts. Discuss Brett Amory here.

Streets: Phelgm (Ireland)

It looks like Phlegm, like many street artists, is taking advantage of the good weather to get up on as many walls as he can. Not long after a series of Waterways, he now has a couple more to add, this time in Bantry, West Cork (Ireland). Included was this sweet submersible, structured after a fish, piloted by his characters. Discuss Phlegm here.

Upcoming: Andy Kehoe – “Into the Depths” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Coming up on July 7th, the Thinkspace Gallery will be presenting a new selection of paintings from Andy Kehoe. For Into the Depths, the Pittsburgh-based artist will be exploring a new process in creating his works. Involving multiple layers of resin, the new pieces are time-intensive but add a complexity and 3D effect to his new body of work while maintaining his fascination with autumn-themed imagery. He’s also incorporating local flora into the paintings, which will see his signature characters peeking out from behind real cattails […]

Not only will fans be able to check out some of the Portuguese street artist’s new styrofoam works, he has also worked on multiple walls while in town.  Here are some photos of two of the more interesting ones – one with mimicking some […]

Interviews: TrustoCorp x The Hollywood Reporter – Tabloid Magazine Interventions

It looks like TrustoCorp has drawn additional interest of THR (The Hollywood Reporter) after their initial story on the piece they did for our City of Fire exhibition. This time, the weekly trade magazine for Tinseltown spoke to TrustoCorp about their recent Tabloid Magazine Interventions. THR and Trusto had a serious Q&A session regarding artistic expression in parodying tabloid covers as these magazines twist and warp facts on numerous  celebrities in pop culture in the interest of sensationalist reporting. The Hollywood Reporter (THR): How do […]

Upcoming: Usugrow – “Ink Moon” @ Stolenspace

Later this week on June 22nd, the Stolenspace Gallery in London will be hosting a new solo show from Japanese artist Usugrow. Ink Moon will include a selection of originals, prints and an exclusive vinyl figure release – the Shinganist’s new Shingon Skull figure. We haven’t seen a large body of work from him since 2010 at the same gallery, but it looks like he is continuing to perfect his signature fusion of Japanese calligraphy and the LA “cholo” style graffiti. Discuss this show here. […]
