David Choe Paints Tribute To Beaten Asian Teen

By now, everyone has probably seen the video that went viral which showed a group of people brutally beating a Chicago teenager. Thankfully, it sounds like the Asian victim of the racially motivated attack appears to not have sustained serious injuries. David Choe (featured) recently painted this tribute mural to hopefully bring attention to this issue as well as get some of these cowards put in jail if they can be recognized. Recently, Thinkspace Gallery hosted a solo exhibition by artist Esao Andrews (interviewed) entitled Nowhere. The night featured a great collection of artwork that touches upon various themes which fuse a sense of reality with an aura of the fantastical. Pastel colors contrast nicely with dark colors which give the artwork a sense of brooding and melancholy. Live, the Affordable Art Fair will kick off their Los Angeles showing with a goal of presenting contemporary art priced from $100 – $10,000, hence their name. Releases: Chet Zar – “The Dead Pope” Bronze

Although there have been resin versions released previously, this newest iteration of Chet Zar (interviewed) limited edition sculpture, The Dead Pope, is in bronze. Fans of the LA-based artist’s macabre style will definitely be interested to know that the sculpt will be available this weekend at the Conjoined II show (more on this later and check out the Conjoined I here) at Copro Gallery this Saturday night, January 21st. Over the weekend, the Robert Berman Gallery presented an exhibit titled Just Occupy which gathered a collection of photography from photojournalists Ted Soqui and Christopher Felver, as well as works from Shepard Fairey (featured). The pieces shown centered on the L.A. Occupy movement that took shape during 2011 and it also marks the first major exhibition documenting this particular moment in time and those people who experienced it.
