Basel Week Miami ’15 / Streets: Li-Hill x James Bullough – “Radioactive Cascade”

As we continue our look at the prolific street activity centered around the Wynwood District during Basel Week Miami, the next mural that caught our eyes is the collaborative effort between Li-Hill (interviewed) and James Bullough. Taking advantage of how well Li-Hill’s kinetic imagery and Bullough’s glitch-like style mesh together, its creation was timed to coincide with the COP21 Paris Climate Conference. CONTEXT Art Miami was another popular satellite fair for this year’s Basel Week Miami. Paired up with Art Miami, these two events gathered huge crowds over the course of several days. From a wide selection of works presented by over 80 participating galleries, we’re bringing you some of our personal highlights that include everything from AJ Fosik’s masterful wooden sculptures, to the Miaz Brother’s huge canvases, to new sculptural works by Mark Jenkins, to Mars-1 bronzes, to a captivating David Kassan portrait piece and many more. Recap: Usugrow @ Woolloomooloo Xhibit

After a solo last month in Japan (covered), Usugrow followed it up by opening an exhibition in Taipei while there for POW! WOW! Taiwan. The showing presented by Remix ＆ G-SHOCK at the Woolloomooloo Xhibit space featured the Japanese artist’s characteristic mix of urban calligraphy & Los Angeles “cholo” subculture. About month ago we introduced the new charity art auction website solidARTy.org. After a successful launch and donations by many artists from around the globe, the project seems to be growing bigger and better by the day. Openings: Peter Baracchi – “This Never Happened” @ SOON Gallery

Last month, Peter Baracchi opened a new show at the Zurich location of SOON Gallery entitled This Never Happened. The title references nicely the nature of the locally-based artist’s work which is inspired by the graffiti buffs in Switzerland. The country is known to be neat, clean, and tidy place and so it is, the painting over of illegal tags and art on the streets is done with tape to get perfectly straight lines resulting in strange geometric shapes. Earlier today, Faile (featured) announced the preorder availability of their Savage Sacred Young Minds print portfolio at special price of $3000. The images are taken from pieces in the Brooklyn-based duo’s Brooklyn Museum show earlier in the summer including Night Bender, Almost Rapture, Eastern Suspenso, Bad Seeds, Invasion Dream Club, and Off On a Fast One. Basel Week Miami ’15 / Showing: SCOPE

One of the first satellite fairs we hit during Basel Week Miami was SCOPE Miami, situated nicely in their pavilion on the beach off Ocean Drive. Celebrating its 15th anniversary edition with 120 international exhibitors from 22 countries and 57 cities, the fair had something for everyone including this Suck Face bronze from D*Face seen above and the Felipe Pantone installation seen directly below.
