Streets: JR (New York)

Internationally known, world famous street artist and activist JR (interviewed) spent a good part of a day hanging out in Little Italy working on his latest cliff hanger. This latest wall, one of his more modest works, is a sprawling 7 stories, and appears to be making a statement about global economics and its uncertainty. Depicting a man holding on by just the tips of his fingers, this is just one of many works we expect to be seeing from the French artist while he is […]

Streets: El Mac x Kofie (LA)

El Mac recently teamed up with his friend Augustine Kofie (featured) once again and to paint a new piece entitled Icarian Flight somewhere on the streets of LA. This is not the first time the two locally-based artists have collaborated, and with a good reason we must add after seeing this mural. The juxtaposition of El Mac’s distinctive soft portraiture against sharp and geo-based abstraction of Kofie creates a powerful mixture that brings out the best of both styles. On top of being different imagery wise, the transparent, aerosol-based […]

Releases: Pejac – “Meadow” Print

After his recent Asian tour that included Hong Kong (covered), Seoul (covered) and Tokyo (covered), Pejac returned to his studio in Barcelona to work on his next limited edition release. The image he chose for this release is a black and white version of his large canvas, Meadow,  that he painted earlier this week. Depicting a startled lonely deer in a meadow made of arrows, it is a nice example of his simple visual language that carries a deeper, more complex message. While plain at first, the […]

Streets: 1010 (Warsaw)

After a look at Conor Harrington’s new mural for Street Art Doping in Warsaw, we now have photos of the effort from 1010. Like his recent piece in Las Vegas (covered), the German artist painted his signature multi-colored optical illusion on the side of a building. Take a look at more shots of wall below and let your eyes fool you into visualizing a hole on the side of the structure. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

German government cultural protection law plans could cripple the market for German artists and undermine the country’s role in the art market. Georg Baselitz withdraws loaned artworks from German museums […]

Streets: Interesni Kazki / Waone – “Eternal Recurrence” (Sicily)

After sharing one side of the silo painted by AEC, one half of the Interesni Kazki, we now have a look at the effort from his partner Waone. Keeping with the theme of Greek mythology, the Ukranian artist added imagery on his side of the structure that reference the Triskelion, a symbol of the sun and the passage of time, but also the symbol of Trinacria, Helios’ Island, or now modern Sicily. Helios was the solar god and also guardian of oaths, and responsible for he gift of sight. Discuss […]

Streets: Ernest Zacharevic (Lisbon)

After Finok, Nunca, Sainer and others, the Underdogs collective from Lisbon are continuing their efforts to bring the highest quality street and urban art to the Portuguese capital. They are currently hosting Ernest Zacharevic at their studio, as he’s preparing his upcoming solo show, finishing a new limited edition etching, and creating new public art in the city (more on that below). In his signature style, the Lithuanian-born artist recently finished two small works applying his classic painting skills to the streets. One piece shows a little boy playing with a yellow line […]

Releases: Risk – “Old Habits Die Hard”

1xRun recently teamed up with Roger Gastman to create an extensive monograph for one of the most legendary LA writers and graffiti icon RISK (interviewed). The Detroit-based publisher released these 350 page hardcover books on July 17th, coming either with a limited edition print or original artwork. The book itself covers the story of Risk, from the very early 80s to the present day. It narrates his role as one of the pioneers of graffiti in Los Angeles and his aim to not only push the boundaries of his own art but also to […]

Streets: Conor Harrington (Warsaw)

Continuing to share his “fight club” imagery with the public, Conor Harrington (interviewed) recently completed a new mural for Street Art Doping in Warsaw. Painted over several days, the fresh piece features some of the Irish artist’s recognizable colonial figures getting ready for some one-on-one fisticuffs. Other artists slated to make their mark in the Polish capital include 1010, Ernest Zacharevic, 108, and CT. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Streets: Interesni Kazki / AEC – “Odysseus Escape From Polyphemus” (Sicily)

We are a sucker for murals painted on silos. Something about the curvature of the surface the awesome way the imagery usually stands out from the surrounding background takes things up a notch. This latest example is from AEC, one half of the Interesni Kazki duo, entitled Odysseus Escape From Polyphemus. The piece is a play on the famous Greek myth as you can see from the sheep and references the topic of relations between politics and mafia in the port area of Catania, Sicily where the mural […]
