Upcoming: Phlegm – “Mausoleum of the Giants” (Sheffield)

So, it looks like Phlegm has been hard at work at something epic that will open to the public soon in the UK. Mausoleum of the Giants in the street artist’s home base of Sheffield will feature large-scale sculptural installations in an abandoned factory, populating the halls and rooms with creatures and elements of his distinct imagery. Showing: Andre x Futura – “Chez Nous” @ Danysz Gallery (Paris)

André & Futura have joined forces for a unique collaborative show at Danysz Gallery in Paris with their signature pictorial characters. Aptly entitled Chez Nous, the exhibition presents a series of unseen works where they answer each other and merge their energetic painterly gestures. Futura’s otherworldly characters, such as the Pointman, echo Saraiva’s whimsical Mr A. dancing figures, as if their pictorial alter egos were enjoying themselves as much as both artists did in this adventure. Showing: “KAWS:HOLIDAY” (Taipei)

Over the weekend in Taiwan, fans of KAWS experienced what their counterparts in Seoul felt (covered) when the American artist’s impressive HOLIDAY companion sculpture was revealed. Produced in a sitting position rather then laying down, the 36 meter tall inflatable figure relaxed itself at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei and will be on view through the 27th of this month. Upcoming: “KAWS:HOLIDAY” (Taipei)

Later today in Taiwan, KAWS will be unveiling the next iteration of his KAWS:HOLIDAY program after its debut in Seoul last year (covered). On view at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall between January 19 and 27 in Taipei will be the New York-based artist’s largest work to date, a 36-meter tall inflatable version of his signature Companion figure. Recap: Okuda – “The Plastic Island” @ Mirus Gallery (Denver)

Today marks the last day of Okuda’s solo show at Denver’s Mirus Gallery entitled The Plastic Island. Including logos of corporations and brands with his signature characters in colorful compositions, the Spanish artist takes aim at the role of plastics in our consumerist society and its deleterious effects on the environment. Working with the geometric patterned style and vibrant palette that has become his trademark, the new body of work features both paintings and sculptural pieces that event incorporate actual plastic products.
