Every year during Basel Week Miami, AM always spends some time in the Wynwood district checking out the activity as street and graffiti artists put in the time to beautify the area. One of the favorite fairs we visited during Basel Week Miami was SCOPE and its high concentration of art from the Low Brow, New Contemporary, and Street Art movements. Featured at the fair were pieces from the Dean Collection (from collector Swizz Beatz), a new sculptural piece (based on recent print) from Cleon Peterson in the entryway, an installation from Swoon, a Juxtapoz stand, and Heineken House live painting. One thing the AM team will be sure to try and pick up during Basel Week Miami is this sweet collaboration between Barry McGee and Beats By Dre. Openings: Phil Frost – “Intuitive Mathematics” @ Galeria Javier Lopez

Last week, fans of Phil Frost in Madrid saw the opening of Intuitive Mathematics, a solo showing at Galeria Javier Lopez and his first in Spain. Seen were large scale works as well as found objects that were painted over with his recognizable aesthetic, something he calls “intuitive perceptive portraiture.” Layers upon layers of typographical and geometric shapes flow in repeating patterns that he honed to perfection over time with mark-making on the streets. Openings: Anthony Lister – “Hurt People Hurt People” @ Lazarides Rathbone

Despite being recently arrested and charged for graffiti in his home city of Brisbane, Australian artist Anthony Lister made it through to the UK for his new solo show entitled Hurt People Hurt People at Lazarides Rathbone in London. He also managed to paint three murals on the streets in the capital city. The exhibition features colourful canvases highlighting contemporary issues, from seductive female figures in superhero outfits to soldiers and still life paintings. Adrian Falkner aka Smash137 recently opened his solo show on the 27th of November at Galerie Neuheisel in Saarbrücken, Germany. The artist that built his name by putting it up on pretty much every surface of his hometown of Basel, Switzerland from 1990 until 2005, introduced his new series of heavily abstract, graffiti inspired works titled Neue Farbe (New Color).
