Streets: Walk & Talk Festival (Part III) – Mark Jenkins and Sandra Fernandez

After sharing with you works from Vhils and Liqen for this year’s Walk & Talk Festival, we turn our attention to the contributions of Mark Jenkins (interviewed) and Sandra Fernandez. The two artists decided to create some whimsical tape sculptures “riding” down to the ocean for the annual event held on the Archipelago of the Azores in Portugal. Previews: Shepard Fairey – “Americana” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery

This Saturday, Shepard Fairey will present a fresh body of work created in collaboration with Neil Young. The show entitled Americana is Shep’s interpretations of the songs from Young’s recently released album Crazy Horse. This special exhibition will be held at Perry Rubenstein’s newly opened Los Angeles gallery. For all you Obey fans, there will be a limited edition print set available at the opening which contains silkscreen versions of the artwork created for the show. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.

Streets: Aryz (Copenhagen)

Despite the difficulties in painting over brick, Spanish street artist Aryz has finished a beautiful new mural in Copenhagen for the Galore Festival. As you can see from the photo above, this new piece is right next to the tower that ROA painted at last year’s event. Upcoming: José & Rey Parlá – “U.T.O.P.I.A.” @ colette

On September 3rd, the Parlá Brothers (José & Rey) will be presenting a new show in Paris at colette entitled U.T.O.P.I.A. The Brooklyn-based artists will be presenting a collaborative effort with José’s specialty being drawing and painting, while Rey is known for his photographs. It will be interesting to see how they plan to fuse their two artistic repertoires in this new body of work. Discuss José Parlá here.

Streets: Invader (Hong Kong)

Invader recently brought his street invasion to Asia with this new piece in Hong Kong. According to his logs, the anonymous French artist has been to the city-state before and has mapped out some of the spots he has hit up, although this piece might be a legal one. El Mac, who recently shared his album cover design for the new No Doubt album, was in New Mexico over the weekend for the The Hour Has Arrived initiative – a program designed to recognize the importance of fostering and preserving the craft of the Indian, which now includes the culturally informative and interactive Native Public Arts. Put together as by both Beals & Abbate Fine Art and the New Mexico Museum of Art, the project brought artists like Mac and Augustine Kofie (featured) in to collaborate with Native American street artist. Update: Space//Form Group Exhibition @ Breeze Block Gallery

Phil Frost Custom T Rex

Recently, Phil Frost posted up images of a new piece he finished featuring his intricate typographical patterns painted over a T Rex figures. Transferring his technique of layering his signature iconography over found objects onto this large custom, the NY-based artist has created a unique take on the Tyrannosaurus rex, made popular in recent times from the Toy Story movies.
