Kickstarter – Swoon’s Musical Architecture for New Orleans

It seems more and more artists are moving towards using Kickstarter as an avenue to fund their creative projects.  We’ve touched on some before like next year’s POW WOW, the Kenny Scharf documentary, and Kevin Cyr’s Camper Kart, but this next idea we bring you is just as worthy of your support. Brooklyn-based Swoon has a dream of building a permanent interactive structure in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans that she will call Dithyrambalina. “It will look like a house, but it will function […]

Streets: ROA (Paris)

It looks like the prolific anatomical street artist ROA has recently added his name to the long list of artists that have been invited by the Le Mur association in Paris to paint their billboard.  Others who have been by before include Zevs, C215, Shepard Fairey, WK Interact, Swoon, Above and Nick Walker, although it looks like the Belgium-based painter is one of the only ones to creatively utilize the surrounding space with his x-ray vision. Today in Modena, Italy, Gallerie Civica is hosting the opening of KINDERGARTEN, a group show featuring the talents of Tom Sachs, Futura, Mode 2, Os Gemeos, Kostas Seremetis and Delta. It looks like each of the artists have taken time to bring some sculptural works and installations to the space, leading to a dramatic setting – one that should be enjoyable for “children” of all ages. More photos after the jump…

Video: David Shillinglaw – ‘All You’ll Ever Need’

AM stopped by David Shillinglaw’s huge studio space last week to check out what he has been working on in the run up to his upcoming London solo exhibition All You’ll Ever Need. The show is hosted by Cement at East Gallery and will open on 25th August. Whilst we sort through the many pictures we took at the studio, take the first look at this teaser video, beautifully shot and edited by Joanna Dudderidge. Discuss David Shillinglaw here.

Streets: Conor Harrington – “Black Herds of the Rain” (Ireland) Part I

From our sources, Conor Harrington (interviewed) is getting ready for a big solo in London at the beginning of 2012 and some of his work will eventually make it to the new Lazarides space in Los Angeles. Still, he’s making time for the streets as he takes a break from his studio and his fine art making. This time, he has returned to his home country and decided to paint a rodeo rider being thrown off his bull, a metaphor for his views on the current political […]

Videos: Blu – “Megunica” Documentary

Wow. We sat down to scan through the Megunica documentary real quick but ended up watching the whole thing. The film first made rounds in 2009 or so and has won multiple awards at various film festivals but we don’t think there has been an easy way for street art fans get ahold of it – until now. Wired Italy has now made the entire film, all 83 minutes of it, available streamed on their website. For those unfamiliar, the footage follows Blu on a […]

Streets: JR (New York)

After pasting up his newest piece at the prominent Bowery & Houston location in New York, JR continued his Inside Out project and his focus on the Dakota Native Americans with an even larger mural at what looks like another popular wall.  Nice touch also leaving the graf and Shepard Fairey piece untouched on the wall. More photos after the jump as the French street photographer hit up other locations in the NYC.

Streets: JR Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

Last week we first showed you the pics of the prominent Bowery & Houston mural completed by French artist JR. The famed photographer utilized the simple but enlarged image of Native American “DJ 2 Bears”. Of course, no man is an island. JR called in the help from some friends involved in the (Sioux) Standing Rock Nation project in the Dakotas to help finish wheat pasting the location. AM caught the crew hard at work on the streets of Manhattan. Check out the photos taken for […]
