The White Walls gallery opened the doors to Belgium-based street artist, ROA’s first San Francisco solo exhibition Saturday night. Leading up to the show, information and images were shrouded in secrecy as ROA methodically put on the final touches up to the show’s opening (as evidenced by his hands covered in black paint). Last night, one of the hottest spots in Culver City was the opening of D*Face’s (featured) show Going Nowhere Fast at the Corey Helford Gallery. The next-level Lichtenstein inspired pieces combined with the sweet highly visible mural (covered) as well as his street intervention on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (covered) brought out his fans (new and old) in droves and led to brisk sales. Saturday night, Martha Cooper (interviewed) launched a special group exhibition at LA’s Carmichael Gallery. If the upcoming Art In The Streets Exhibition at the MOCA is this year’s Superbowl for street & urban art, then consider this show the preceding playoffs. A true graf legend, COPE2 recently opened up a show in his home city of New York. The new body of work showing at the TT-Underground Gallery entitled “Transition” was a colorful representation of the “wildstyle” graffiti the writer help popularize starting in the late 70s in South Bronx.
