Streets: Barry McGee (New York)

It looks like Barry McGee has begin his assault on New York by throwing up huge tags all over the mural space at the Houston and Bowery location we first told you about last week. Initially, this looks pretty similar to the wall he worked on in San Diego for the Viva La Revolucion show but we will be monitoring the site for any additional progress. More pics after the jump…

The Lady Aiko, who was recently in Los Angeles for the opening of her joint show “Vivid Fiction” (covered), lived for a week at The Standard in Hollywood. While staying at the hotel, she created an installation there with her signature stencils and imagery. Luckily for us, someone was around to get some footage. So, observant street art fans in New York must have noticed by now that Shepard Fairey’s much vandalized “These Parties Disgust Me” mural (done in conjunction with his “May Day” show at Deitch) has been covered with the scaffolding below rebuilt. Lazarides’ latest exhibition at their Rathbone Place space opened on the 20th of August and showcased a solo exhibition by legendary Brooklyn artist Bäst. On show are a series of large scale works on canvas, paper and wood, along with several sculptural pieces, which sees the artist revisit and expand upon themes and styles he has been experimenting with for many years.
