Williams, Black Rat Projects (formerly the Black Rat Press) are celebrating the festive season with the installation and launch of Black Dog Books on 2nd December. Openings: Gert and Uwe Tobias – The Breeder, Athens

AM was in Athens, Greece, and stopped into The Breeder to check out the latest show by Romanian-born twins Gert and Uwe Tobias. We first became aware of the brothers a few years back after happening upon a show of theirs at a gallery in Los Angeles’ Chinatown, where we were instantly taken by their dark yet playful works on paper. Since then, they have done quite well to say the least, exhibiting at MoMA, as well as at prestigious galleries around the world.

After it’s start in France in July, “Stages” will make its final stop before the paintings going to the homes of collectors (purchased to benefit LIVESTRONG). The exhibition will be on location at this year’s Art Basel Miami at O.H.W.O.W. Deitch Projects has assembled an astounding roster of artists – including Aiko, Shepard Fairey (featured), Barry McGee, Os Gemeos and Swoon (interviewed) – to participate in its Art Basel Miami ’09 Wynwood Walls project. According to the press release, a major property owners in Miami’s Wynwood art district has made available a group of walls and buildings on which the artists can create murals. Releases: Above – “First Love”

The ever evolving street artist Above (interviewed) has just released in his online store a stunning new print of his Valentines Day image from earlier this year. Composed of 12 colors, this screenprint measures in at an impressive 22″ x 30″ (55cm. X 76cm.), comes hand embossed, numbered and signed. With two variants accompanying the release (the hand embellished one is already sold out), expect there to be something for any Above fan. Pictures of the variant editions after the jump.

However, it looks like David Choe is already in London getting ready for the super-group show at Lazarides as well as wreaking havoc on the streets. AM visited Steve “ESPO” Powers on the opening day of his “This Woman’s Work” show (previewed) at White Walls in San Francisco. ESPO held back no punches as he furiously assembled, painted and tagged an entire show in just a few days. Streets: Blu in Lima

As always, AM is right on top of what Blu is up to, no matter where in the world he is. After finishing two incredible murals in Bogota, the artist hopped on a plane to Lima, where he got straight to work on yet another amazing piece. Writes Blu of the shot above, “the ossuary background is ready”, so we’re excited to see if there’s more to come. Check out some more progress shots after the jump.

JR @ Abu Dhabi Art Fair

Looks like intrepid traveler, JR, added Abu Dhabi on the list of places he has visited with his street photography. To coincide with the annual Abu Dhabi Art Fair, the french wheatpaster was asked to create a large scale installation for the increasingly art-infused capital of the arab emirate.
