Openings: Gaia & Imminent Disaster @ Ad Hoc Art

Last Friday, Ad Hoc Art had a great two-person solo show with Gaia and Imminent Disaster (previewed). The hippest of the Williamsburg crowd made their way out to see a great showing by these two street artists we recently saw in D.C. at the “Street/Studio” experience. For the show, Gaia brought the streets to the gallery with a “outdoor” installation to complement each of his works while Imminent Disaster flexed her muscles by showing off her intricate hand-cut stencils and thought-provoking imagery. All the photos from the opening […]

Openings: Invader & WK Interact @ Jonathan Levine

On Saturday, Invader and WK Interact drew a big crowd trying to catch a glimpse of the two hard-working artists from Europe’s Street Art scene. It was a treat to see both artists create large sized works to fill the walls of Jonathan Levine’s multi-room gallery. The works from WK conveyed much raw energy and emotion as hinted in our preview. The door installations were astonishing as each one was adorned with endless details that had to be seen to be enjoyed.  Invader was equally entertaining, […]

Auctions: Day & Evening Sales @ Christie’s (London)

AM took a look at Christie’s Summer Post-War and Contemporary Art auctions, taking place tonight, June 30, and tomorrow, July 1, and found a few pieces we would love to put in our collection. Thank goodness more and more auction houses are using the term “Post-War” for what is no longer “Contemporary” art. Let’s hope the galleries and art fairs start to do the same. Our favorite lots from ths auction include Liu Ye’s “Red I” (Lot #2) seen above, estimated at $246,000 – $328,000. […]

Preview: EINE – “The A – Z of Change” @ Carmichael Gallery

We weren’t sure what to expect when we first got wind of EINE’s Los Angeles solo debut, “The A – Z of Change,” (teased) opening July 9th at Carmichael Gallery, but we are seriously impressed with what he’s delivered.  For this latest body of work on canvas, EINE used a combination of silkscreen and hand-spray techniques to create vibrant pieces containing powerful imagery of individuals standing up against the status quo, a message all too appropriate in today’s times given the unstable political climate in various countries around the globe. We can’t wait to see the entire […]

Check out the interview and get a chance to win a signed copy of “Subway Art: 25th Anniversary” after the jump.

FAME Festival: Conor Harrington x Ceramics

Remember when we showed you the Conor Harrington (interviewed) piece for the upcoming FAME Festival last week?  Well, what we didn’t tell you was that Grottaglie, the town where the festival will be held, is famous for its ceramic tradition dating back hundreds of years.  As part of this years festivities, artists are invited to experiment with local artisans on various projects, which has so far yielded some pretty fantastic ceramic plates by Conor.  This is not the first time urban/street art and ceramics has […]
