Both made the trip across the pond for the opening and happily chatted with fans about their work and the underlying message behind their rich, multi-layered, vibrantly colored pieces. London based artists Conor Harrington and Chloe Early have a joint exhibition opening tomorrow, Saturday April 18th, at the influential Kinsey/DesForges gallery in Culver City. Both have shown work individually in group shows in the United States before, but “Chasing Castles” marks the first showing of a full body of work stateside for both artists. Preview: AIKO – “Love Monster” @ Joshua Liner

This Saturday, Joshua Liner will host the opening of “Love Monster,” Japanese-born Brooklyn-based artist Aiko’s first solo show with the gallery and her largest exhibition to date. Since parting ways with street art collective Faile in 2006, Aiko has been steadily developing as a solo artist, utilizing her substantial stencil, spraypaint and wheatpaste technique to create vibrant large-scale mixed media works. Her imagery is often sexually charged depictions of women culled from comics, pulp novel covers and even soft-core porn. However Aiko is able to […]

Openings: Draw @ Shooting Gallery SF

The mother of all drawing shows opened last weekend at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco.  Featuring drawings from over 400 artists, the DRAW show is definitely one of the largest of its kind featuring artists we are all familiar with.  The exhibition started in 2006 at Fuse Gallery in NY, then to SXSW in 2007, and last year it was held at StolenSpace in London.  Make sure you stop by for a look if you are in the bay area but if you aren’t, […]

Studio Visits/Video: Judith Supine

AM last showed you street artist Judith Supine’s colorful psychedelic imagery with the unveiling of his massive 18 x 16′ kinetic sculpture piece at the 15 Years of New Image Art show back in January. Curious as to what he’s been up to, the multi-talented Dante Ross recently paid his friend a visit at his home studio where we got a good look at Supine’s recent work in progress. Some pieces look slated for the street and others for gallery shows. Either way, we’re interested […]

Openings: BOXI – “Grey Area” & Neo-Con Collective + Zeus – “Hollowood” @ Carmichael Gallery

Berlin-based stencil artist BOXI made his United States solo show debut with “Grey Area” (previewed) which opened this past Thursday at Carmichael Gallery. Patrons were captivated by BOXI’s photo-realistic work and found themselves immersed in the barren world his subjects reside in. Filled with emotion, the work is visually arresting and something that should be experienced in person if you’re in the Los Angeles area. The Neo-Con Collective and London urban artist Zeus overhauled the rear of the gallery with “Hollowood,” featuring Ellis G’s (Seen […]
