Studio Visits: Michael Kagan – “Thunder in the Distance” @ Joshua Liner

AM recently had the pleasure of visiting the Brooklyn studio of painter Michael Kagan as he prepares for his upcoming exhibition at Joshua Liner Gallery which opens April 3rd. Entitled Thunder in the Distance, this latest body of work continues his exploration of space aviation. Known for painting with oils, Kagan employs an impasto technique which utilizes thick and deliberate strokes. From upclose, the paintings seem to be almost coming apart, but take a few steps back and it appears to re-form tightly into a […]

Streets: Faith47 (Cape Town)

Faith47 just shared this beautiful piece in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Titled You Hold No Blame For My Proud Heart, the piece is shows two swans facing each other forming a heard shaped image. In her signature manner, the South African artist used watered out paint that dripped all over the wall as well as got soaked in, making the mural become one with the surface and the building it’s painted on. The transparency of the image and the fact that the wall wasn’t cleaned or buffed before […]

Videos: Judith Supine Scales the Queensboro Bridge

We just received this exclusive video from Judith Supine‘s camp, showing some behind the scene action that took place the other night in NYC. As street art lovers already know, Supine has been known to put extra effort to place his public work in some of the most unusual places reachable. So, following his stunt from 2007, when he installed one of his pieces on Manhattan Bridge, the other night he climbed the Queensboro bridge in order to display one of his collages from the Golden Child […]

Continuing his ongoing project entitled Nomadic Experiment, 2501 recently visited the Tuscany region in Italy, where he created some new, interesting public pieces. Aside from creating public works, this endeavor will include a couple of gallery shows worldwide that will feature elements of these works as well as new pieces and installations. For this stage of the project, the prolific Italian artist painted an old […]

Streets: Cyrcle. (London)

During their recent visit to London for the opening of their solo show Overthrone! Pooring Reign (covered), Cyrcle also created a huge mural in Shoreditch. Following the theme and the visual identity of the exhibition, this massive piece features upside down Greek & Roman statues along with an upside down crow, infinity symbol and word REIGN. The whole concept of the mural is focused on taking power back, and overthrowing the rulers. With the Greek & Roman elements symbolizing some of the biggest and strongest empires that […]

Interviews: Moby – “Innocents” @ Project Gallery, Los Angeles

Currently showing in Hollywood at Project Gallery is a show of photographic works by NY transplant and LA evangelist Moby. Ever since moving to the Sunshine State, the man most famous for his musical abilities has been concentrating more on his visual artwork (as well as his architectural appreciation and criticism). He first had a show in 2011 at Kopeikin Gallery and while that series of work included live crowd shots from his concerts, Innocents is a entirely different type of exhibition, featuring staged shoots and […]
