Streets: Rustam Qbic (Ravenna)

Moving a lot around Europe lately, Rustam Qbic recently visited the Italian city of Ravenna where he painted his contribution to the Subsidenze Street Art Festival. Working three long days in the warm Italian sun, the Kazan artist quickly finished this new piece titled Immigration. Measuring 15m x 5m, this wall is a nice example of the symbolic surrealistic images that Qbic has been painting around the globe. After seeing her wall mural painted for Guzzo Club in Barcelona, we have wondered how Cinta Vidal’s work would translate to the streets. With her recent series of experimental pieces with her friend Uriginal on the streets of her hometown, fans of her work now have an idea. In May, we shared with you the amazing takeover by JR (interviewed) at the famous Louvre in Paris where he pasted over the iconic pyramid using photographs of the surrounding structures. Looking at the right angle, it appeared that the pyramid in the main courtyard “disappears” from sight. Who better to collaborate with next in an inception-like project than with China’s disappearing man – Liu Bolin? We recently visited the studio of painter Mike Dargas as he prepares for his upcoming solo show at Opera Gallery in London from 6 – 20 July (curated by Jean-David Malat). Born in 1983 in Cologne, he started drawing and making paintings with oil paint from a very young age. In his early twenties, the German artist built himself a solid reputation in the tattoo scene and won numerous prizes and awards. Continuing her series of works featuring a novel method of embroidering metal objects, Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė has recently decided to apply her unique technique to war helmets. The Lithuanian artist, who is choice of our next Art Focus article, recently exhibited these pieces at Art Vilnius 2016 where she was awarded for best installation at the fair. Earlier this month, Buff Monster painted a new mural in Montreal for this year’s edition of the Mural Festival. Working along with other artists in the heart of Saint-Laurent Boulevard, the American artist decided to tackle the them of the deadly seven sins through the lens of his signature ice cream characters. Joining the plethora of artists that have had art visible from the High Line in New York, Barbara Kruger unveiled a mural she designed earlier this year (and on view through March 2017). Continuing their longstanding public arts program, Urban Nation in Berlin recently completed their ninth edition – Project M/9. Curated by JUSTKIDS and StreetArtNews, the event this time hosted Borondo (seen above), Fafi, Bicicleta Sem Freio, Askew, 1010, and Eron as they painted walls in the capital city with “Colors” as the theme.
