Streets: Komafest (Part III) – Conor Harrington

After a look at the street pieces Ethos and Vhils put up for Komafest in Norway, we turn our attention to Conor Harrington (interviewed). The UK-based painter worked on several murals while he was in Vardø which featured imagery similar to what was seen during his recent London solo (covered) as well has mix of photorealistic and abstract colonial portraiture. Streets: Banksy for the Olympics (UK)

With the Summer Olympics opening this Friday, it was only a matter of time before Banksy put his thoughts on the event out there. Two new images (unknown locations as of yet but presumably in London) were just uploaded to Mr. B’s website – one showing a missile substituted in for the javelin throw and the other stencil placed perfectly next to a a barb wire fence featuring the pole vault. Keep your eyes out for more work from the elusive street artist if you are […]

Streets: Picturin Torino Mural Art Festival

The Picturin Torino Art Festival recently played host to artists Graphic Surgery, V3RBO, and 2501 as they were invited to paint murals in an area of the Italian city with old warehouses and factories. They were among a group of 30 artists from France, Holland, Bulgaria, Spain and Italy who were tasked with beautifying city landmarks – Parco Dora, Amedeo di Savoia Hospital, Hiroshima Mon Amour, schools and façades – and turning Torino into a big outdoor museum. Streets: Komafest (Part II) – Vhils

After opening a duo of shows in Lisbon and Paris, where he also was able to make his mark on the city streets in those major metropolises, Vhils moves north to the much smaller town of Vardø. The relatively tiny Norwegian town is the site of Komafest, a street art festival which hopefully will help revitalize a region that has suffered from depopulation and the decay. The Portuguese artist applied his unique technique to a something we haven’t seen before, a wooden building – with a pretty sweet result […]

Streets: Olek (Brazil)

Last we heard from Olek, she was in her home town of Katowice working her yarn-bombing magic on a couple of escavators for a street art festival. Now, the Polish knitter, who was recently named as one of the Smithsonian’s 40 under 40: Craft Futures artists, has surfaced in São Paulo, Brazil to do some work for SESC where she created “Crocheted Jacaré” for their playground, covering an alligator shaped installation designed by Marcia Maria Benevento. Streets: Aiko Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

Last week, we brought you the start of Aiko’s work on New York’s renowned Bowery & Houston mural location. Working through the course of several days the artist took her time to stencil and paint sections of the wall. As you can see from the detailed shots, Lady Aiko made more progress by implementing more colors on to the final product. Take a look at the completed mural below. Discuss Aiko here.

Streets: How & Nosm (Philadelphia)

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of watching How & Nosm as they completed a large wall on the LA Weekly building in Los Angeles. Now, the Spanish twins recently completed a new mural in Philadelphia (South 13th Street and Sansom Street) entitled Personal Melody. The New York-based duo initially used a 80′ boom lift that couldn’t reach the top, but with the delivery of a 125′ lift, the mural was able to be completed in just two days. Photos via Graffuturism. Discuss How & […]

Streets: See No Evil 2012 (Part 1) – ROA

It looks like the 2012 edition of See No Evil has kicked off with this new piece from the Belgium-based ROA. Coinciding nicely with the Unnatrual-Natural History exhibition where he also threw up some public art, The prolific street muralist hit up Bristol with another piece featuring his signature imagery. The lineup this year for the festival looks as impressive as last year, with artists like Conor Harrington, Nychos, Flying Fortress, INSA, M-City, Remi Rough, Pixel Pancho, Eine, Nick Walker, Sickboy, among others scheduled to make an […]

Streets: World Roundup (July 9 – 15)

This weeks featured mural for our world roundup is from Liliwenn & Bom K (Da Mental Vaporz) in Brest, France for Crimes of Minds (photo by Kevin Perro). This is the last piece for the project to transform the city into an urban art museum.  Look for videos and a book next year documenting the process. Other notable street work comes comes from Martin Ron – Argentina (source), Niels Post – London (source), Hyuro – Mexico, Vhils – Spain, Steve Locatelli – Belgium (source), Nychos […]

Streets: RIME, DCEVE, and TOPER (New York)

The Los Angeles-based and MSK-affiliated RIME recently made the trip out to New York for this standout wall including the names of Smart Crew members DCEVE and TOPER. As evidenced by his other moniker “Jersey Joe”, RIME has roots and experience getting up in the area which he used to full advantage with this rooftop collaboration or tribute. While there, he also painted an outline of a sketch NYC’s HAZE did of RIME’s name in an alley under the Manhattan Bridge (set up by Klughaus Gallery). Via […]
