Streets: Dabs Myla (Los Angeles)

With Christmas soon approaching, now would be a good time to tell you about a project from Dabs Myla that opened recently in Los Angeles. With the support of LeBasse Projects, the Australian duo created a series of installations at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Covering three blocks of the popular shopping & dining thoroughfare with holiday themed imagery, the two artists were able to give visitors perfect photo opportunities to remember this festive season. Finok was recently invited to take part in the fourth edition of Festival Concreto that took place in Fortaleza, Brazil. Working along with 20 international and 20 other artists from all around Brazil, the Sao Paulo-based artist created a simple intervention on one of the local houses. Streets: Peeta (Italy)

Recently in Agropoli, Italy, Peeta completed a mind bending new mural for the a.DNA project that is a prime example of his style. Spanning four walls at the Liceo Statale A.Gatto public school, the piece from the Venice-based artist features lettering from his graffiti background as well as an anamorphic technique that deceives the eye. At the end of September, the people behind POW! WOW! Hawaii held their event celebrating culture, music and art in a new country – South Korea. Hitting seven locations in Seoul (Sangdo-dong, Yeonnam-dong, Mullae-dong, Hongdae, Sookmyung Womens’ University, Hapjeong, Janghanpyeong) in eight days, five local artists Jay Flow, Royyal Dog, Xeva, Sixcoin, Yoon Hyup and five overseas artists, Andrew Hem, Cryptik, Jasper Wong, Tristan Eaton, and Persue gave the public a chance to see their live mural painting. Streets: Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada – “Connection” (Beirut)

Recently in Beirut, Lebanon, Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada (featured) completed a mural entitled Connection with support from BAD (Built by Associative Data). The wall now (commissioned by Beirut Digital District) features a young boy exploring an electric circuit board, touching on the need for innovation and education in building a better future for the country. Taking a full ten days for the Cuban-American artist to complete, the piece deftly navigates various architectural elements to spread across the structure. Discuss Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada here.

Spanish artist Escif was very active in the last couple of months, travelling around Europe and creating new public works inspired by the local issues and history. Streets: Mark Jenkins // Lodz Murals (Poland)

Recently in Poland, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) was invited in to create a series of seven installations for a public arts project curated by Michał Bieżyński – Lodz Murals. Working along Piotrkowska street, the American artist stationed a few pieces at ground level and left some that passersby had to look up to see. As per his usual practice, the works were riffs on the human form and their effectiveness hinged on the element of surprise and clever placement. Photo credit: Rafaà Tomczyk. Earlier today Banksy set up a street tea party in front of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, Palestine (covered), “celebrating” tomorrow’s 100 years anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. The infamous artist already addressed the important role of Great Britain in the ongoing Middle East conflict at the hotel’s museum, and couldn’t miss an opportunity to remind the world about it on this big day. A few days after Nuart Festival officially closed their 2017 indoor show (covered), they wrapped up another successful mural project. Teaming up with Smug, Attende AS and students from Kannik Middle School, they produced their inaugural mural for the new Social Inclusion Through Street Art project. Attende AS employs approximately 330 people with disabilities who would otherwise exist without a meaningful work life. Recently in Munich, Positive-Propaganda collaborated with another artist in their ongoing street art project (covered) of “establishing contemporary and socio-political art in urban spaces.” Invited in by the non-profit, Skullphone created several pieces using his usual style targeting Coca Cola’s deceptive “greenwashing” ads that positions their high sugar content soft drinks as supposedly healthy in their “Light” products.
