Streets: Liqen – “Family Taco” (Mexico)

Liqen, an artist that we have not focused on directly yet here on AM, but has been doing good work recently, has a new wall up in Mexico City entitled Family Taco. The Spanish street artist is primarily known for his surreal large scale murals filled details that require a second and third look to fully appreciate it’s complexities. More details pics after the jump…

Live Painting: Futura @ CARBON

On Sunday, CARBON came to a close in Melbourne, Australia. The festival consisting of some major players in the art, style, and design fields hosted a live painting session on the final night. Among the artists represented, Futura was unquestionably the main attraction. It’s rare enough to see his work in the flesh, let alone to witness him work his magic with the can firsthand. AM was privy to just such a treat a few weeks back, as he worked his abstract wizardy on the […]

Streets: Faile – Prayer Wheel (Williamsburg)

One of the coolest examples of Faile’s outdoor works are the Prayer Wheels (featured) which first debuted at their Lost in Glimmering Shadows show in the UK. These sculptural works are engineered to spin in place while people meditated to their favorite images from the collective. In the past few years, the duo have placed these awesome pieces outdoors for the people to enjoy. Now, they’ve sent us pictures of the latest street intervention which they have deployed near McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Check […]

Streets: Herakut with Case (Los Angeles)

Making use of their time in Los Angeles wisely (also see their street piece in Culver City), German duo Hera and Akut moved on to their next project – a wall with fellow Ma’claim crew member Case aka Andreas von Chrzanowski. While Akut used his photorealism skills on some signature characters with Hera, Case worked on some giant birds to interact with the children.  The sweet mural was hosted by Mark Aiella, and located at Manual Arts High School where he is a teacher. The artists along with […]

Streets: Blu (Italy)

It looks like the warmer weather in Italy has allowed Blu to get up more recently (see Bologna & Palestra).  While the last two murals were collaborations with compatriot Ericailcane, this time Mr. Blu went at it alone in Jesi with this piece done over the Easter holiday. A hint at how he feels about religion? Discuss Blu here.

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part III

Apparently, TED prize winner JR is still in Los Angeles working on his massive The Wrinkles of the City project. We thought he had finished the series of walls (see Venice &  Melrose) and left town after his TED acceptance speech, but now we see a new piece is up on the side of the Sushi Roku in West Hollywood.  The French street photographer must have taken a break to enjoy his part of the Art in the Street exhibition. Take a look at another pic […]

Streets: Ethos (Los Angeles)

Angelinos have been privy to a lot of great street art recently, not to mention the landmark Art in the Streets exhibition currently showing at the MOCA. Another impressive piece (organized by LA Art Machine) went up recently from the Sao Paolo-based Claudio Ethos on Main & 5th Street and is his biggest mural to date according to Unurth. More photos after the jump…

Streets: Herakut (Los Angeles)

With a little down time between the opening of Outside/In at LeBasse Projects and moving on to New Hampshire for the second part of their group show, Herakut worked their magic on a couple walls (arranged by the gallery and Warren Brand) in Los Angeles. The pensive children featured on the murals seemed to have a lighter feel when compared to the indoor work perhaps in no small part influenced by an in-person photo reference. More photos after the jump thanks to Jeremy Asher Lynch.

Streets: Phlegm – “The Harnessing of Giant Squids”

Phlegm, who recently completed the Black/Light project in London, has been active on the streets recently.  Take a look at this sweet mural completed near a riverbank entitled The Harnessing of Giant Squids featuring some of his signature characters wrestling with their catch. The piece will photograph quite nicely when the winter water levels rise reminiscent of the Banksy Global Warming stencil in Camden. If you notice a nautical theme in some of his work recently, perhaps it’s related to a comic he is working […]

Streets: Banksy (London)

Although it was surprising Los Angeles did not get gifted any new Banksy pieces in the weeks leading up to the opening of the MOCA Art in the Streets exhibition, it looks like the anonymous street artist has produced a new piece in his native land. This stencil, which has not been confirmed on Mr. B’s website yet, appeared in central London over the Easter holiday and is in the same area where his famous One Nation Under CCTV used to be. More pics after […]
