Streets: Etam Cru @ LFG: All My City Festival (Poland)

Dream Catcher is the newest mural created by Polish art duo Etam Cru. Both members, Sainer and Bezt, painted this large piece in Lubin, for the LFG: ALL MY CITY ’14, organised by the Europejska Fundacja Kultury Miejskiej and Brain Damage Gallery. Created over the course of 5 days, the image shows a dog wrapping up his owner with a leash, in an attempt to catch an imaginary bone. The mural is a perfect example of their signature elements – a playful scenario, a peculiar way of freezing a tensed, dynamic moment, […]

Streets: Jeff Soto (Los Angeles)

Last week, Riverside native Jeff Soto (interviewed) headed to Los Angeles to paint a mural (invited by Juxtapoz) for Converse and their Wall to Wall program. Set in South Central L.A. on Slauson Avenue where some of his ancestors originally settled, Soto decided to do something as a tribute to them. Working on the piece over the course of two days, he decided to go with one of his familiar owl motifs. He states: “The Owl is a symbol of age and experience, a matriarch or patriarch of the […]

Showing: Vhils – “Dissection” @ Electricity Museum / EDP Foundation

Earlier this month, the Electricity Museum / EDP Foundation in Lisbon hosted the opening of Vhils’ (filmed) expansive museum show, his largest to date. Entitled Dissection, the exhibition features a look at the diverse range of the Portuguese artist, highlighting his unconventional choice of mediums. Along with several public works (covered here & here) in the capital city, the pieces included in the show put his unique mark-making and destructive techniques on display from his chiseled surfaces on found objects, to torn and ripped media pieces, to […]

Streets: World Roundup (Jul 7 – Jul 20)

A review of recent public works for our Streets World Roundup sees this new mural (seen above) from Shok-1 as one of the standouts. Entitled  The Consumer, the new piece makes a clever modification in the Pac-Man imagery that we are used to and again highlights the sublime translucent x-ray spraycan technique from the London-based artist. Other notable walls come from Know Hope x 2501 – Austria, Gaia – South Carolina, Cyrcle. – Poland, Borondo – UK, Aaron Li-Hill – New Jersey (source), Faith47 – […]

Streets: ROA (Belgium)

Prolific world traveler ROA hardly has time to be in his home country, but it looks like he recently was in Belgium for the North West Walls project. We already touched on the event here for another artist, but now we have some photos to share from the anatomically obsessed street artist as he painted stacked containers at one of the country’s biggest music festivals. Take a look at an interview he gave here and check out some of the other artists’ efforts here. Photos via BA Street […]

Streets: DALeast (Poland)

A couple days ago, DALeast sent over images of a new mural he painted for the Street Art Doping Project in Warsaw, Poland. Entitled Dormant Antennae, the striking new mural featuring a falcon perching on a cobra that was painted to channel up to an antennae on the roof. This time around after taking a long look at the building, the Chinese artist wanted to create an older looking piece that would appear like it had been part of the structure for a long time. We […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey For The Line Hotel (Los Angeles)

AM recently had the pleasure of staying at The Line Hotel in Los Angeles, a project put together by the good people behind the Ace Hotel among others. Along with the work of D*Face gracing the west side of the property, the locally-based Shepard Fairey (featured) was asked to create a large mural overlooking the main entrance of the hotel. Completed over the course of several days, the “Peace Tree” will now be seen as a prominent part of the Wilshire corridor as drivers head west through […]

Streets: World Roundup (Jun 15 – Jul 6)

The time had come for another Streets World Roundup here on AM. Leading things off is a complex new work of art from Felice Varini in Hasselt, Belgium for the “De Unie Hasselt-Genk” exhibition. The spiral-like piece which plays with perspective was painted on the roofs and facades of 99 buildings and can only be properly seen from one vantage point. Take a look at more here. Other murals that drew our attention in recent weeks includes work from Shok-1 x Remi Rough – UK, Strøk – Italy, […]

Streets: Faith47 (South Africa)

Faith 47 recently spent a few days painting in Durban, South Africa, as part of the cultural program of the 25th World Congress on Architecture, UIA2014 Durban. For this event, she will be painting six walls on four of the supporting columns of the main freeway overpass adjacent to the Early Morning Market in Warwick. Recently, she completed three of these walls, with another three to be painted in August. For this project, the South African artist chose to paint portraits of actual traders in […]

Streets: Vhils (Portugal)

Only a couple days before the opening of his first museum show, Dissection, Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils finished this large outdoor piece in front of the Museu da Electricdade where the show will be held. As the last in a series of large works he created through the city, the final 360 degrees piece Panorama on the round water tank is one of his most elaborate ones yet. By transferring his scratched paper collage technique onto this large building, Vhils surely lifted up the quality of his work to another level. […]
