Ryan McGinley – “Reach Out, I’m Right Here” @ Tomio Koyama Gallery

After simultaneous showings back in May at Team Gallery locations in New York (covered here & here), Ryan McGinley traveled to Japan for a solo at the Tomio Koyama Gallery. The exhibition entitled Reach Out, I’m Right Here (which recently closed), featured more of McGinley’s luminous photographs featuring his work with models interacting with nature as well as live animals from various sanctuaries, zoos, and rescue establishments across the United States. Openings: JR – “Pattern” @ Emmanuel Perrotin (Hong Kong)

After teasing his fans with updates from the setup of his show in Hong Kong as well as photos of a sweet new mural in the Asian metropolis, JR’s show at Emmanuel Perrotin finally opened last night. The French photograffeur has kindly sent AM shots from the opening of Pattern, where he unveiled his first sculptural creations ever in the form of crumpled photographs, originals featuring his signature eye, as well as a new photobooth for his Inside Out project. With his show opening very soon (September 18th) in Hong Kong, French street artist JR has completed another mural for his Inside Out project. This new long mural was installed on the roof of one of the footpaths of the IFC and can be seen from various viewpoints above the piece. Upcoming: JR – “Pattern” @ Emmanuel Perrotin (Hong Kong)

After spending time building an enormous photo booth for Festival Images in Switzerland, JR has moved on to his next project. Pattern will be the French street photograffeur’s first solo in Hong Kong and will open at Emmanuel Perrotin on September 18th. Hopefully, he’ll be able to work in some public art for his fans in Asian as well while there… Discuss JR here.

Starting this weekend in Vevey, Switzerland, the Festival Images kicks off with a series of outdoor and indoor projects as well as associated programming. If you remember, the event (held biannually) was anchored by the Unframed project in 2010 from French street photographer JR. After bringing you a look at the new work from  Thomas Campbell in Copenhagen, we now turn our attention to two of his other friends who were showing alongside him – Evan Hecox & Ed Templeton. The two other artists also opened solo shows entitled Known Associates & Litmus Test respectively at the V1 Gallery featuring Hecox’s urban environments pieces (seen above) and the skate subculture photography of Templeton. Coming up at the end of next month (Sept 27th), street sculptor and photographer Slinkachu will be opening a new show at Andipa Gallery in London.
