Openings: Art Los Angeles Contemporary ’11

This past weekend, the second annual Art Los Angeles Contemporary took place at its newest location, The Barker Hanger.  LA’s best contemporary art fair featured work by established artists such as Barry McGee, Dan Attoe, Richard Jackson, Shepard Fairey and Ryan McGinness, as well as tons of emerging ones.  Participating were galleries from all over the world, including California, New York, Europe, and Asia. A major improvement this year was the easy to navigate floor space compared to the spread out and confusing maze of […]

LA Art Show: Murals from Andrew Hem, Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof

For several days while the Los Angeles Art Show was in town, Andrew Hem’s (interviewed), Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof were hard at work working on some large mural pieces. Interested attendees were treated to some extended live painting as each artist worked on some signature imagery for their enjoyment. Mr. Shark Toof and Chor Boogie have been especially busy as they also did work for the Patron After Party if your remember (covered). More photos courtesy of Brandon Shigeta after the jump…

VIP Art Fair

An art fair based on an interesting premise opened this weekend – the VIP Art Fair. As online sales have increased when compared to in-person sales at most galleries, it was only natural that a virtual art fair be the next “big idea”. What is surprising though are the heavyhitters that are backing it. Look at some of these founding galleries – David Zwirner, Gagosian, White Cube, and exhibiting galleries – Blum & Poe, Paul Kasmin, Gladstone, Emmanuel Perrotin, Perry Rubenstein. It seems collectors were […]

Setup: Patron After Party (Los Angeles Art Show)

Tomorrow, January 19th, marks the opening of the annual Los Angeles Art Show. Art Show has been around for a while and this will be their sixteenth one.  One of the afterparties AM will be attending is taking place on the 51st floor of the Ritz Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE put on by the L.A. Art Machine and hosted by […]

Teaser / Video: Adam Neate @ Art Stage Singapore

From January 12th-16th, Elms Lester will be showing Adam Neate’s (interviewed) work at the first ever Art Stage Singapore. If they are lucky, fans in the city-state will be seeing some of the work from his Flock Series at the art fair that we saw in October at the London gallery (covered).  Take a look at these three-dimensional marvels in the video above to get a better perspective. Discuss Adam Neate here.

Basel Week Miami ’10: Ian Francis @ Joshua Liner Gallery

As we mentioned in the Kris Kuski article, Joshua Liner Gallery’s booth was one of the most stunning that we saw at SCOPE Miami this year. Showcasing a trinity of heavy talent that the Chelsea gallery will represent in the upcoming year, it wasn’t a surprise to see passersby drawn to the dynamic displays. AM favorite Ian Francis (featured) created a fresh batch of works for Basel Week and his warped environments were as intriguing and hypnotic as we have come to expect from the […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Sikkema Jenkins & Co.

New York’s highly prestigious Sikkema Jenkins & Co. had many ooohs and aahs by visitors at their Art Basel Miami Beach booth due particularly to the piece above by one of the most talked-about artists recently – Mark Bradford.  The large-scale piece was one of AM’s favorites at the fair and magnificent to look at and stand in front of.  The booth included work by many other acclaimed artists, such as Kara Walker, Vik Muniz, and William Cordova.  It was quality throughout as you will […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Ryan McGinness – “Women: The Blacklight Paintings” @ Club Madonna

One of the most anticipated events of Basel Week Miami was the opening party for Ryan McGinness’ latest series of works Women: The New Blacklight Paintings. Presented by the folks at Country Club x The Standard Miami, the show was held inside a South Beach Strip Club (Club Madonna). Much like the mural which Ryan created for Wynwood Walls, the works took on another dimension once the black light hit. The stunning reactive paint just popped out for the viewers. Upping the ante for the opening, […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Corey Helford Gallery

One of the highlights of the Scope Art Fair this year was the booth from LA’s Corey Helford Gallery. From the moment we stepped foot in area, we noticed a plethora of art from some AM’s favorites like as Luke Chueh, D*Face, Chloe Early, Ron English, Natalia Fabia, Korin Faught, Eric Joyner, Brandi Milne, Sylvia Ji and Shag. The lux booth design was inviting as pimp couches and rugs invited spectators to take a load off to stare at a great preview of artwork for the […]
