The idea of this ongoing project is to bring life and fresh energy to the streets and the daily life of the city. The Regional Museum of Contemporary Art in Sérignan, France is currently showing the nostalgic abstractions of Rosson Crow (featured). Featuring 25 large-scale paintings (old and new) from the American artist, the comprehensive exhibition, her largest ever, gives attendees a good look at the psychedelic modern take on decadent interiors from the past that have become her signature imagery. After sharing photos of the high profile installation and an in depth look at the creation of new commissioned pieces for his new show in Shanghai, we now turn our attention to Cai Guo-Qiang’s explosive opening festivities at the Power Station of Art. The multi-color aerial spectacular hosted at the riverfront of the museum was a crowd pleaser and highlighted the firework art skills from the Chinese artist. After a look at the The Ninth Wave, a fishing boat installation from Cai Guo-Qiang’s hometown of Quanzhou carrying 99 fabricated animals, we now turn our attention to the exhibition with the same name at the Power Station of Art. Housed at a renovated power station in Shanghai, the ample space at the museum was a perfect setting for the Chinese artist’s work as well as the creative sessions (also see LA 2012) where pieces of commissioned art were produced utilizing his signature gunpowder technique. Paris-based street artist André Saraiva opened a showing at the Museum of Design and Fashion (MUDE) in Lisbon last month. Featuring one of the most recognizable characters in the street art world, an exuberant stick-figure alter ego, Mr. A, as well as many other aspects of his career spanning graffiti, painting, street art, installation, sculpture and film, the exhibition is a retrospective (open through Sept. 28) that brings the artist of Portuguese origin back to his roots.Take a look at the diverse collection of works below… Photo credit: Stick2Target.
