Along with a show coming up in London, French “photograffeur” JR (interviewed) also will be opening a solo museum exhibition soon at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. The show officially opens on September 21 (more details on the schedule and associated activities here) and will feature wheatpasted images, photography, video projections, sculpture, as well as the famous mobile phone booth which has been spreading the street artist’s Inside Out love. We recently attended the public unveiling of the new Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) mural created by KAWS we first previewed at night. The new mural location also contains a bike rack specially designed by David Byrne. This sculpture/rack entitled “Bold Wink” is a perfect eye catcher to grab some eyeballs as BAM patrons can see this new project opposite the institution’s Peter Jay Sharp building. Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “Palimpsest” @ Harvard Reischauer Institute

Brooklyn based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) recently opened a new exhibition in the Reischauer Institute at Harvard University for its 40th anniversary. This sparkling showcase features classic and fresh paintings for those in the Boston area. This great show runs until November 1st and the artist reception with Matsu in attendance on September 26th. After a comprehensive series of shows in collaboration with the New York City Ballet earlier this year, the Brooklyn collective known as Faile haven’t had any time to rest. The two Patricks have been hard at work getting ready for their big upcoming museum show at the Dallas Contemporary scheduled to open September 21st. Aakash Nihalani recently sent over some photos of some tape installations he created for the exterior walls of the new Parrish Art Museum which just relocated to Watermill in a new Herzog & de Meuron building. Utilizing his outdoor medium of choice, the New York-based artist once again showed a deft touch in bridging the two and three-dimensional realms with these whimsical new pieces. Rumor Mill: Jeffrey Deitch’s Reign At MOCA Over?

Late last night, LA Weekly reported that Jeffrey Deitch will be leaving the LA MOCA at the end of the month. Despite increasing attendance during his reign at the Los Angeles institution and bringing in a fresh vision for the museum, there continue to be financial woes. Signs of discontent came to a head also with the controversial resignation of chief curator Paul Schimmel as well as multiple artists leaving the board under Deitch’s watch.
