Upcoming / Streets: JR @ Contemporary Art Center (Cincinnati)

Along with a show coming up in London, French “photograffeur” JR (interviewed) also will be opening a solo museum exhibition soon at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. We recently attended the public unveiling of the new Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) mural created by KAWS we first previewed at night. The new mural location also contains a bike rack specially designed by David Byrne. This sculpture/rack entitled “Bold Wink” is a perfect eye catcher to grab some eyeballs as BAM patrons can see this new project opposite the institution’s Peter Jay Sharp building. Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “Palimpsest” @ Harvard Reischauer Institute

Brooklyn based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) recently opened a new exhibition in the Reischauer Institute at Harvard University for its 40th anniversary. This sparkling showcase features classic and fresh paintings for those in the Boston area. This great show runs until November 1st and the artist reception with Matsu in attendance on September 26th. Upcoming: Faile @ Dallas Contemporary

After a comprehensive series of shows in collaboration with the New York City Ballet earlier this year, the Brooklyn collective known as Faile haven’t had any time to rest. The two Patricks have been hard at work getting ready for their big upcoming museum show at the Dallas Contemporary scheduled to open September 21st. Rumor Mill: Jeffrey Deitch’s Reign At MOCA Over?

Late last night, LA Weekly reported that Jeffrey Deitch will be leaving the LA MOCA at the end of the month. Despite increasing attendance during his reign at the Los Angeles institution and bringing in a fresh vision for the museum, there continue to be financial woes.
