A couple weeks ago, Marion Peck along with husband Mark Ryden hosted a book signing for Peck’s first fine art monograph, Animal Love Summer, at Sloan Fine Art in New York. This coincided with her recently opened and current show What You Are, So Once Were We which featured new paintings (large and small) and sculptural pieces. As we mentioned in the Kris Kuski article, Joshua Liner Gallery’s booth was one of the most stunning that we saw at SCOPE Miami this year. AM recently had the pleasure of attending a special group show curated by our friend Wendy Asher, who you may remember from her appearance in Exit Through the Gift Shop. The Wynwood Walls was a very unique project that brought the arts back to a worn down district of Miami. Openings: Cleon Peterson – “Daybreak” @ New Image Art

Revelries of unrestrained passions, secret desires, and violent indulgences invaded the New Image Art Gallery recently with the opening of Cleon Peterson’s newest show – Daybreak (previewed). Drawing inspiration from Nietzsche’s Daybreak: Reflections on Moral Prejudices, Peterson seeks to graphically explore both the light and dark sides of the human condition. As you will see, in addition to his usual action-packed landscapes, there were also some interesting abstract works included in this new body of work. More opening images after the jump…

A couple Saturdays ago, Show & Tell Gallery played host to a cohesive group show from Kevin Cyr (interviewed), Mike Shankman, Jeff Gillette, Joshua Barndt, and Alex Lukas entitled Atrophic Existence. Along with some pretty nice pieces from a group of painters whose work focuses on urban decay and disintegration, Gillette also brought some beautiful sculptural renderings of his shantytown structures and you could not miss the massive central installation from Barndt entitled The World is a Mountain and Everything Gets Buried. Openings: Kid Zoom – “This City Will Eat Me Alive” @ Opera (NYC Pop-Up)

AM recently caught the opening night of Kid Zoom’s first ever US solo show This City Will Eat Me Alive. The large pop-up space opened by the Opera Gallery in the the hip meat packing district was a great setting to showcase KZ’s large size paintings. Just as we previewed in our recent studio visit, Kid Zoom utilized his signature spray techniques to create the works that delighted fans who made it out to see this body of work. Last Thursday night, AM was on hand for one of the most exciting openings we’ve ever experienced: Dennis Mcnett’s Reaping Waves and Vital Vessels at the Joshua Liner Gallery. AM recently attended a great show at the Sho Gallery in Brooklyn. The group exhibition entitled TRANSFORM showcased the paintings and sculptures of 30 artists that work for or have worked at Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Studios. Although this show was not in anyway affiliated with the studio, it certainly impressed with the overwhelming talent that this influential studio possess. One of the highlights of the Scope Art Fair this year was the booth from LA’s Corey Helford Gallery.
