Openings: Mark Dean Veca – “When The Shit Hits The Fan” @ Western Project

Last night, Western Project hosted “When The Shit Hits The Fan”, the newest solo show from Mark Dean Veca (featured). The spacious Culver City gallery was a nice backdrop for Mark’s impressive large scale paintings featuring his highly stylized renderings of familiar pop icons. The body of work is Mark’s reaction to the world today, a sort of an artistic state of the union address detailing his thoughts behind the economy, war, greed, corporate malfeasance, and more. On Saturday, Esao Andrews opened up his latest exhibition at Jonathan Levine Gallery with a new body of work consisting of some of his largest paintings to date. Utilizing his signature mix of creative story telling and darkly laid out characters/compositions, Mr. Andrews entertained the audience with a rich and complex show. Openings: “BLABWORLD … Scenes from THE HEREAFTER” @ Copro Gallery

Last Saturday, the long time running publication BLAB! completed its makeover with their reoccurring show at Copro Gallery – this time as BLABWORLD. The renamed anthology of comics, illustration, and graphic design from Monte Beauchamp focused on thematic works based on “scenes from THE HEREAFTER” and a nice slate of artists obliged with their unique interpretations. Openings: James Jean – The “Birds and Boys” Series @ 3.1 Phillip Lim – Fashion’s Night Out

High fashion and fine art was exhibited in a seamless mix as James Jean unveiled his Birds and Boys series at 3.1 Phillip Lim during Fashion’s Night Out in West Hollywood. Jean’s fantastically cool portraits of the famous and the beautiful of Los Angeles were hung throughout the store, occupying the same racks as Lim’s elegantly designed threads.
