AM attended the opening of Shawn Barber’s (featured) solo show – “Tattooed Portraits: Chronicle” at Joshua Liner Gallery a couple weeks ago. The ever-talented tattoo master created a new series of works based on various on the tattooing paraphernalia and portraiture of his friends. The intense paintings looked radiant in our interview with Shawn and in person, and they seem to jump out at the viewers. Book Launch: Beyond the Street @ Phillips de Pury, London

The London book launch for Gestalten’s “Beyond the Street: The 100 Leading Figures in Urban Art” took place on Friday last week at Phillips de Pury’s Victoria headquarters to a healthy crowd and with a celebratory vibe. Many of the book’s contributors joined the editors of the book, Patrick Nguyen and Stuart Mackenzie, to toast the success of just how well this mammoth publication turned out. A couple days ago, AM attended the opening of Luke Chueh’s (interviewed) show “Beginnings / Endings (And Other Worthless Ephiphanies)” at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. One of the shows that opened tonight at the Guerrero Gallery was Alex Lukas’ solo “These Are The Days of Miracle and Wonder”. Along with the post-apocalyptic imagery that has captivated fans of the Philadelphia-based artist, Lukas brings back some of the desolate landscapes he has worked on in the past but now with more detail and cohesive composition. As we mentioned in our preview, Black Rat Projects opened their doors a while back to a pretty impressive collection of the street scene a couple weeks ago. Last weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) held his latest solo show “May Day” at the legendary Deitch Projects in New York City and effectively shut down a small part of SoHo with the crowds he drew at the opening night festivities. One our stops in this past weekend’s art tour de force in NYC was Scott Campbell’s “If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long”. Hailing from Miami, OHWOW Gallery created a hip Soho pop-up space that was new to AM eyes. The minty fresh location drew boatloads to the opening night festivities.
