Openings: LeBasse Projects (Culver City Artwalk)

The first stop of the Culver City Artwalk for AM was the group show at LeBasse Projects. Along with a strong lineup of gallery regulars, artists new to us such as Jean-Pierre Roy were featured during this annual event. His colorful paintings of imaginary landscapes drew us in with their dream-like vibrancy and fancy. More pics after the jump…

Openings: Greg Simkins – “Inside the Outside” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

This past weekend, AM attended the opening of Greg “Craola” Simkins‘ (featured) newest show “Inside the Outside” at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. Our anticipation has been building ever since we brought you a preview from Greg’s Los Angeles based studio. At that time, only part of this body of work was complete and apparently it was only the tip of the iceberg. Ever the diligent perfectionist, Greg works to push his technical skills a little bit further each time we see his work. As we […]

Openings: “The Future Tense” @ Future Gallery

We recently brought you a preview for “The Future Tense” held last week at the Future Gallery in London, where we focused on the art of Icelandic artist Katrin Fridriks. Well, AM sadly couldn’t make it to the show ourselves, but Ed of TFT sent us along a great set of pictures of the installed art and also from the opening event. It looks as a good night was had by all, and for an inaugural exhibition, it also looks as the event was well […]

Openings: “The New Grand Tour” @ Bryce Wolkowitz

Last night, AM attended the opening of “The New Grand Tour” at the fresh gallery space of Bryce Wolkowitz (previewed). With a lineup of Deanne Cheuk, Jose Parla, Rey Parla, Davi Russo, Romon Kimin Yang (Rostarr) and Suitman a.k.a. Young Kim, it was not hard to see why the Chelsea space was packed to the brim with art lovers. Many industry peers such as Ryan McGinness, KAWS, Eric Haze, Sandra Gering, Cristina Grajales and Akino Kondoh were also in attendance. One of our favorite pieces was a supersized […]

Art HK ’10: Aya Takano

Another artist that we were looking forward to seeing at Art HK 10 was Murakami protege, Aya Takano. The Japanese artist, whose show we also covered in NY, was exhibiting at the Emmanuel Perrotin booth and has been one of the highlights among strong sales at this year’s Hong Kong Internation Art Fair, apparently selling several of her pieces to Chinese and Korean collectors. More images after the jump…

Openings: “Beyond the Street” NY Book Launch @ Deitch Projects

Imagine the days of high school where it’s the last week of school before summer hits and everyone is saying their goodbyes while signing each other’s yearbooks. That was the scene as AM attended the last public event at the legendary Deitch Projects and as expected, it was a blast! Set to the background of Shepard Fairey’s intense “May Day” exhibition, the book launch for Gestalten’s “Beyond the Street: The 100 Leading Figures in Urban Art”, by Patrick Nguyen and Stuart Mackenzie, drew a veritable […]

Openings: San Francisco Fine Art Fair

Last weekend, the San Francisco Fine Art Fair returned to the Bay Area after almost a hiatus of almost a decade. Galleries close and far took advantage of this opportunity to show their wares to the eager local art community. AM was on hand to take some pics, all after the jump…

Openings: Logan Hicks, Anthony Lister and Michael Kalish @ Opera Gallery (NY)

Last week, AM attended the opening at New York’s Opera Gallery where they hosted the opening for Logan Hicks (interviewed), Anthony Lister’s (interviewed) and Michael Kalish. Many attended the opening including Eric Haze, Charming Baker and crew. Check out the opening night pics after the jump.

“Beyond the Street” NY book launch @ Deitch Projects

AM UK recently attended the bustling evening that was the London launch of Patrick Nguyen & Stuart Mackenzie’s “Beyond The Street” book, hosted at Phillips de Pury. The level of support for the book came over extremely positively in the number of people that attended the event. Now, New York gets it’s turn as the stateside launch party is to be held next Thursday 27th May at Deitch Projects. Bring your copy of the book along or grab a copy at a discounted rate at […]

Openings: Hajime Sorayama @ Shirokane Art Complex

You may remember Hajime Sorayama from his collaboration with Kaws on the “No Future Companion” figure that we covered last year. A famous artist in his own right, the Japanese paintor, who is know for for his sexy robot and pinup art, opened a show recently at the Shirokane Art Complex. We have several more images after the jump, but for the full set check out Hypebeast.
