Openings: Evah Fan – “What Have You” @ Park Life

Last Friday evening, Park Life in San Francisco presented Evah Fan’s latest colorful, mysterious and minimalistic artworks (previewed). For this show, she veered slightly away from her usually microscopic gouache paintings and incorporated blocks of colors and figures to depict what might happen in everyday indoor scenarios from the point of view of a person peering through a window. Openings: INSA @ Projet Beaumont (Montreal)

Last week, London-based artist INSA returned to North America to open a new solo show in Canada. For this show, the Yves Laroche Gallery joins forces with LNDMRK in a brand new space in the Parc Extension neighborhood called Projet Beaumont. This exhibition of new works includes spray paintings, concrete works, wall installations and an outdoor mural. For those in Montreal, the exhibition runs through September 21. Openings: Evan Hecox & Ed Templeton – “Known Associates” & “Litmus Test” @ V1 Gallery

After bringing you a look at the new work from  Thomas Campbell in Copenhagen, we now turn our attention to two of his other friends who were showing alongside him – Evan Hecox & Ed Templeton. The two other artists also opened solo shows entitled Known Associates & Litmus Test respectively at the V1 Gallery featuring Hecox’s urban environments pieces (seen above) and the skate subculture photography of Templeton. Openings: Shepard Fairey, Evan Hecox, and Jim Houser @ Black Book Gallery

Last month, we took you onto the streets of Denver as we took a look at some of the pieces Shepard Fairey left in his wake as a show featuring work from him, Evan Hecox, and Jim Houser was held at the Black Book Gallery. Openings: José & Rey Parlá – “U.T.O.P.I.A.” @ colette

Parisian house colette in France just opened the eagerly awaited new exhibition titled U.T.O.P.I.A. (previewed) featuring new collaborative works from the Parlá Brothers. The Brooklyn-based siblings placed a series of paintings on the walls featuring a melding of José’s urban calligraphy and Rey’s playful arrangement of colors and lines as evidence of their artistic dialogue. Openings: Steven Harrington – “Insideout” @ Known Gallery

Currently showing at the Known Gallery in Los Angeles through this weekend are the works of Steven Harrington. Insideout is the first exhibition held in his hometown of Los Angeles since 2009 from the artist and designer, also known for co-founding both the design agency National Forest and pop-art brand You&I. The new body of work consists of a collection of drawings, paintings, prints, and sculptures (including his biggest ever – seen above) that reflect Harrington’s artistic journey of discovery and his desire to share it with others. Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Americana” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery

Over the weekend, the debut show at Perry Rubenstein’s newly opened Los Angeles gallery featured new works from Shepard Fairey. Entitled Americana, the exhibition showcased eleven new works, each one inspired by the songs, such as Oh Susannah, This Land Is Your Land and Clementine from Neil Young’s new album Crazy Horse. “Fairey says he listened to the music and lyrics to come up with concepts for visual representations of the songs. Openings: Andrew Schoultz @ Park Life

Saturday evening, Park Life hosted an exhibition and book signing of Andrew Schoultz’s book, Up in the Air (previewed). The show featured an array of original and editioned works, as well as an installation that expanded one of his larger paintings onto the gallery wall. Be quick to check out these kinetic paintings from this bay area artist, as it is set to close Wednesday for the preparation of the gallery’s next exhibition featuring Evah Fan.
