On October 15th, beinArt Gallery in Brunswick, Australia will be hosting a three person show entitled Force of Nature. The exhibition will feature the oil paintings of Chris Leib’s featuring a strangely pleasing combination of chimpanzees and infantile astronauts, Rachel Bess‘ modern day furies, and Stuart Amos’ hybrids of humans and nature. Previews: Barry McGee // Sites Unseen @ Moscone Center Garage

Today, the 9th of October, public art by Barry McGee will be unveiled (3PM–6PM) at the Moscone Center Garage in downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena neighborhood. This will be an inaugural event for Sites Unseen, a nonprofit public art organization that joined with Ratio 3 gallery for this project. On October 14th, Megumi Ogita Gallery in Tokyo will be hosting a new solo from Chris Berens entitled Moonrise. The Dutch artist’s work, influenced by manga & anime, has always appealed to his Japanese fans due to the surreal imagery like it was taken from the latest Final Fantasy montage. Previews: Masakatsu Sashie – “External Effect” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Showing concurrently with Glenn Barr’s upcoming solo at Jonathan LeVine Gallery starting October 15th will be an exhibition from Masakatsu Sashie entitled External Effect. The Japanese artist’s work is influenced by the concept of “the balanced aquarium,” described by Nobel Prize winner Konrad Lorenz in his book King Solomon’s Ring: New Light on Animal Ways. Sashie sees parallels between the self-sustaining environment of the fish tank with the world we live in now where we are struggling to maintain stability in our lives while surrounded by consumerism, globalism and environmentalism. Release: Jamian Juliano-Villani – “Is There room for Bruce?” Print

To coincide with her show that just opened at Studio Voltaire in London, Jamian Juliano-Villani has also released a new limited edition entitled Is There room for Bruce? The digital pigment print with embossing is sized at 45.7 x 61 cm and produced in a run of 85. On October 15th, Glenn Barr will be opening a new solo show with Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. The new body of work features paintings that look like stills from old movies created with the Detroit-based artist’s signature pulp art aesthetic. Upcoming: Aron Wiesenfeld – “Unwind The Winding Path” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Teasing his fans with shots of the stunning new body of work he is working on for his next solo show, Aron Wiesenfeld has already revealed a look at a massive drawing in progress (seen above) as well as a cropped shot of a painting he has completed (seen below). Unwind The Winding Path opens on November 19th at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and will be the San Diego-based artist’s major exhibition for 2016. Showing: Swoon – “Thalassa” @ Detroit Institute of Arts

At the end of last month, Swoon (interviewed) unveiled the latest iteration of her Thalassa installation at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Fans of the her work can check out the suspended sculptural piece at the Woodward Avenue entrance through the end of May of next year. This display of Swoon’s work will round out nicely her contributions to the art scene of the Motor City to go along with her exhibition opening soon at Library Street Collective as well as a mural project in the Jefferson-Chalmers district.
