Inspired by some recent paintings (example above) he has been working on called the “Refulgent” series, SABER (interviewed) has recently released some color studies on paper (seen below) for purchase on his website. These pieces on textured water color paper were created using spraypaint, acrylic, charcoal pencil, and oil stick and help loosen the Los Angeles-based graffiti artist up before he tackles the larger paintings like the one seen above. Showing: Vhils – “Debris” @ HOCA Foundation (Part I)

As part of his solo exhibition with the HOCA Foundation in Hong Kong, Alexandre Farto aka Vhils (filmed) has prepped a special installation at the Terrace of Pier 4 in Central. The neon works were modeled after the ubiquitous lighted signage the Portuguese saw during his residency in Hong Kong, as well as images that he created from scratch. Take a look at more photos below and head back here later for more coverage of Vhils show in the Chinese city-state. Photo credit: HOCA Foundation, @sunny_liu, Jose Pando Lucas, @h31.d1, and @rivah. Showing: Gregory Thielker – “Between Here and Now” @ Castor Gallery

Castor Gallery in New York is currently running the last week of a solo show by Gregory Thielker. Between Here and Now features eight original hyperrealist works and a video installation showing examples of his Under the Unminding Sky or “windshield paintings” series that he’s been working on for the last decade or so. The body of work includes large oil works and several pencil drawings/studies illustrating different environments seen through a rain covered windshield. While hyperrealist at their core, the paintings feel almost abstract due to the unusual subject […]

Showing: Jenny Morgan – “Turning The Tide” @ Beers London

Currently in Beers London, new paintings collectively entitled Turning The Tide from Jenny Morgan are on view through April 23rd. The exhibition is the Brooklyn-based artist’s first solo in the UK and introduces her vivid portraits featuring her signature saturated color choices, paired with toned-down grays. The contrast between the two palettes mirror the duality of the human psyche, a paradox of opposites – light and dark, good and evil, confident and vulnerable. This inner struggle is rendered beautifully in the faces of her subjects and is also referenced […]

Showing: Adam Neate – “Heroes” @ Elms Lesters Painting Rooms

Elms Lesters Painting Rooms in London are currently showing a small selection of new dimensional surface paintings on canvas by Adam Neate (interviewed). Heroes is an informal selection of new works created with a new approach that artist is currently developing. The new pieces present his experiments with the dimensional surfaces on the canvas itself. After creating 3D dimensional paintings for years, the London-based artist challenged himself to capture the essence of those works by utilizing the contrast between matte, gloss and textured paints. Reducing the different techniques and mediums he […]

Showing: Andy Rementer – “The Age Of Innocence” @ Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea

Andy Rementer is currently taking part in a double personal exhibition with Fulvia Mendini at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea in Milan. The artists joined forces through similar aesthetics of simplified, polished presentation, use of bright colors, and the nostalgia of illustrated children’s stories. Strongly influenced by Milan and its vibe, Rementer produced a body of work that depicts the daily life, routines and the people he met or saw around town. His visual language has been developed through the years from working  as an illustrator and cartoonist for newspapers such […]

Recap: Joan Cornellà – “A Solo Show” @ Spoke-Art

San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery is currently running the last couple days of a solo show by Joan Cornellà. For his US debut, the Barcelona-based artist produced several original acrylics on canvas as well as a series of fine art giclee prints of his popular comics. Though primarily showing his work on the most competitive platform there is, the internet, Cornellà’s dark, unsettling, sometimes even offensive comics quickly became a viral phenomenon. Mixing a playful 1950’s advertising or airline safety pamphlets aesthetics and a morbid story line, the artist creates work that […]
