Previews / Setup: Swoon & Monica Canilao – “Witch-Wife” @ Chandran Gallery

On February 19th, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco will be presenting Witch-Wife, a two person show from Swoon (interviewed)  and long time collaborator Monica Canilao. The title of the show refers to a woman who practices witchcraft as well as is a nod to the longstanding artistic relationship between the duo. Following up on his recent Fall show in Los Angeles and Winter show in New York, Ryan McGinley will be opening a more comprehensive exhibition tomorrow (February 18th) in Italy. On February 20th, a group show including Alex Gardner, Ashley Wood, Ben Sack, DALeast, Fulvio di Piazza, Jamie Adams, Jansson Stegner, João Ruas, Kevin Peterson, Lawrence Berzon, Mear One, Sam Wolfe Connolly and Soey Milk (seen above) will open at Jonathan LeVine Gallery (529 West 20th Street). The diverse list of artists are part of the gallery’s annual Winter Invitational and may portend future collaborations.

Earlier this month, Roq la Rue hosted it’s first opening of 2016 with Jonathan Viner’s Strange Math.  This marks a new less-is-more approach for the Seattle gallery, focusing on one artist a month, with a couple group exhibitions during the year.
