Zachari Logan’s work has been seen here and there at Roq La Rue for a few years now, but Grotesques is his first solo show at the Seattle gallery. Using colored pencil and pastels, Logan blends plants and animals to create mutated hybrids of familiar species. While the delicate pencil and mylar pieces are framed, two of the pastel paintings are shown simply pinned to the wall. On November 20th, Steve “ESPO” Powers (featured) will be unveiling a site-specific installation for the Brooklyn Museum that he’s calling Coney Island Is Still Dreamland (To a Seagull). The immersive environment will transform the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Gallery with signage and paintings styles that are unique to the seaside community and will also feature the works of Justin Green, Matt Wright, Mike Levy, Dan Murphy, Mike Lee, Mimi Gross, Alexis Ross, Sean Barton, Eric Davis, and Tim Curtis. Previews: Aurel Schmidt – “Blast Furnace of Civilization” @ Half Gallery

Tonight in New York, Aurel Schmidt will be opening a new solo show at Half Gallery from 6-8pm. Blast Furnace of Civilization is the latest installment for the American artist’s ongoing series of works exploring the madness of capitalism.
