Openings: Soey Milk – “PIDA” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Earlier this month, Soey Milk brought her work up north to Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco for a solo entitled PIDA / 피다. The title references a Korean term that means to blossom or to become something else, something that applies to her continued development as an artist and her experimentation with technique. On display were a diverse selection of works including oil paintings and graphite drawings, some with embedded objects incorporated into the pieces. The show will be on view through the 24th for those interested in a visit. Photo credit: Shaun […]

Previews: 100Taur & Hisham Echafaki – “Lusus Naturae” (London)

French artists 100TAUR and Hisham Echafaki (featured) are opening their debut exhibition Lusus Naturae in London on the 14th of October. The latin terminology utilized as the show title refers to creatures that can not be classified, or are labelled ‘freaks of nature.’ Curated by Butterfly Art News, the showing explores notions of anthropomorphism, human fascination with oddities or monstrosities, and our fragile relationship with the natural world through a series of paintings, drawings, and three dimensional works. Inspired by mythology and sacred art, 100TAUR illustrates hybrid animals […]

Nathan Ota will be opening a new solo this weekend at KP Projects//MKG in Los Angeles entitled Four Corners, alongside a showing from Andrew Hem. Featuring imagery that Ota’s fans will recognize like woodlands, cartoonish creatures, and wood crates, the new whimsical pieces will be on display starting this Saturday, October […]

Showing: Brendan Monroe – “Morphology” @ Heath Ceramics (San Francisco)

Currently, Heath Ceramics in San Francisco has an amazing new set of works on display from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) at their Boiler Room space. Entitled Morphology, the exhibition is a cohesive combination of mostly sculptural works, wall mural, and original pieces. As we expected after our studio visit with the Oakland-based artist at the end of August, his months of hard work pushing the limits to further expand his imagery in the third dimension paid off in a big way. Don’t miss this show if you are in the area before it closes […]
