Todd James aka REAS will be opening a new solo show with Lazarides Rathbone on Friday, the 1st of May. Fantasy Island will include a vivid body of hyper colored works that he’s been developing and showing lately worldwide. AM was on hand for the April 17th opening reception of The American _ _ tier solo show from Shawn Huckins (see the recent studio visit here) at Goodwin Fine Art in Denver. There is an almost universal appeal to period specific portraits, as is evident in their prominence in museums and noteworthy collections. The real brilliance of Mr. Huckins’ work is adding a lighthearted element to this gorgeous portraiture, giving the viewer permission to enjoy a piece of work that without the addition of text could seem stuffy or overly serious, […]

Also brightening up the evening was performance artist Pandemonia present amongst the guests. Talking about the show, David Shillinglaw mentions-  ‘Inspired by the […]

Showing: Brad Downey – ‘Souvenirs’ @ Ruttkowski;68

Ruttkowski;68 gallery in Cologne, Germany recently opened a new solo by American artist Brad Downey. Titled Souvenirs, the show features short videos and a series of everyday objects and utilitarian materials juxtapozed in a new context creating a novel meaning. The work raises issues about everything from identity (with his flags drawings), privacy, to self destruction. His series of works with keys touchbase on the notion of access and security. With his techniques of détournement and re-contextualization, Downey reinterprets banal objects to create revelatory artworks. These act as ‘souvenirs‘ as […]
