Showing: visualSKIN – “Ghost Ship” @ Amsterdam Light Festival

For the newest edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival showing through January 18th, the four person Romania-based architecture collective visualSKIN have created a stunning installation entitled Ghost Ship. Projecting the image of a 17th century onto two perpendicular curtains of weather, the piece references the rich maritime history of Netherlands’ capital city. Those in town can see this colorful replica of the famous Dutch East India Company ship that started its maiden voyage to Batavia in 1749 in person in front of the ARCAM Amsterdam Center for Architecture and The National Maritime […]

Ron English & Olek for New Year’s Eve “Popaganda” Artist Ball @ Tribeca Grand Hotel

Tonight in New York, the Tribeca Grand Hotel will be ringing in the New Year’s with a Popaganda Artist Ball. One of the highlights for fans will be this sculptural collaboration between Ron English (featured) who recently unveiled a solo himself (covered) at the hotel and Olek. Featuring one of English’s recognizable characters sitting astride a dinosaur covered in Olek’s signature crochet, look for attendees to take plenty of photos of this joint creation. The event will be hosted by Ron English, Olek, Jon Burgerman, Buff Monster, Logan Hicks, Juxtapoz Magazine, Lori Zimmer […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Case (Miami)

Along with a permanent mural at the prestigious Wynwood Walls complex, German street artist case (aka Andreas von Chrzanowski) also made time to paint this beautiful piece in the surrounding area. Dedicated to the courageous Tuğçe Albayrak who was beaten to death just because she tried to save two other girls from beeing molested by some thugs, the wall certainly stood out with the Maclaim crew member’s signature use of hand imagery and photorealistic spray can skills. Take a look at more detailed photos below… See all our […]

Releases: Yoshitomo Nara – “Drawings: 1984-2013” Book

Published in conjunction with his amazing recent showing (covered) at Blum & Poe in Los Angeles, Drawings: 1984-2013 is the latest book in a long line of publications from Yoshitomo Nara. Those that attended that exhibition may remember an intriguing chronological survey of the Japanese artist’s drawings in the upstairs gallery which showed the evolution of his imagery over the years. Fans can now experience some of this themselves in this 240 page volume packed with “reproductions of early works never publicly exhibited and omitted from the […]

Upcoming: KMNDZ – “I’d Rather Love You” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

After showing with Merry Karnowsky in 2012 (covered), Johnny Rodriguez (aka KMNDZ) will be back on February 7th with another solo show. I’d Rather Love You will feature imagery that we have come to love from the Los Angeles-based artist featuring an interplay of intricately detailed birds, bombs, flowers, jewels, numerology and other paraphernalia rendered in a rust-colored palette. In the works is also a massive 8 feet painting that will serve as the centerpiece of the exhibition. Discuss KMNDZ here.

Upcoming: “La Familia – 10 Years of Thinkspace”

Coming up on January 10th, Thinkspace in Los Angeles will be celebrating their 10 year anniversary with La Familia, a group exhibition featuring over 100 participants. Each artist will be creating a 10″ x 10″ piece on panel (provided by Trekell) like what Scott Listfield painted above – an intriguing post-apocalyptic look at the Culver City gallery where only their EINE painted roll down door survived. Other artists include Aaron Horkey, Aaron Nagel, Adam Caldwell, Alex Yanes, Alexis Diaz, Allison Sommers, Amanda Marie, Amy Sol, Ana […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Recap: Library Street Collective Group Show

While in town for Basel Week Miami, one of the exhibitions we enjoyed the most was put on by the Library Street Collective near Wynwood Walls. With a diverse list of artists involved including Revok, Shepard Fairey, Pose, Kelsey Brookes, Tristan Eaton, Smash137, Vhils, Hush, Sam Friedman, Maya Hayuk, Roids, Mad C, AJ Fosik, Cleon Peterson, Dave Kinsey, Hacer (seen above), Hense, Faith47, How & Nosm, and Swoon, fans had a chance to see a wide range of works. It looks like many of the artists contributed some prime pieces that […]

Upcoming: Colin Christian – “Trypophobia” @ Stephen Romano Gallery

With the new year soon upon us, it looks Colin Christian’s (interviewed) work will be taking a disturbing turn. Fans of the Florida-based artist can see the new direction themselves when Trypophobia opens on January 3rd at the Stephen Romano Gallery in New York. As the title, which means a pathological fear of holes suggests, a more grotesque series of sculptural pieces will be greeting collectors in contrast to Christian’s usual cosplay-themed and sometimes erotic work. Available at the exhibition will be a catalog with texts by Kris Kuksi, Allison Meier, and […]

Releases: Diagonal Press by Tauba Auerbach

After over a year of preparing, Tauba Auerbach and her team launched Diagonal Press on the 26th of December. The idea of this project is top create and offer DIY publications and products – hand-bound, hand-stamped and assembled in the studio, in open editions and at affordable prices. The art created through this platform affordable to the wider audience, and meant to be enjoyed in the real world instead of stored in the art collections with their value defined by what one gets out of owning it rather than from […]
