The unique works of Christian Rex van Minnen are being introduced to Danish art lovers through his current exhibition titled Glazed and Confused at Gallery Poulen in Copenhagen. Opened since the 9th of May, the show includes a new series of van Minnen’s oils on canvas and panel, as well as entire new series of monotype unique works. Showing: Pablo Delgado – “Even Less” @ Howard Griffin Gallery

Howard Griffin Gallery recently continued its busy 2014 schedule by opening a solo show by Pablo Delgado. The Mexico-born artist is a well known figure in the London street art scene due to the recognizable miniature works that he’s been creating around the city for years. For this exhibition entitled Even Less, he tried to present his continuous idea of saying a lot by showing very little. While bringing these tiny pieces into the gallery space doesn’t sound like a difficult task, it was exactly this […]

Frieze Week NYC ’14: Frieze Art Fair (Part 2)

Last week, we brought you a first look at some of the amazing works of art at this year’s Frieze New York. But an art fair such as Frieze contains too many notable pieces—such as Danh Vo’s installation Massive Black Hole in the Dark Heart of Our Milky Way (pictured above)—to be shown in just one post. So, we’ve returned with part 2, which includes images of works by Yayoi Kusama, Ed Ruscha, George Condo, Jonas Wood and Jeff Elrod, among many others. Discuss Frieze […]

Openings: Ai Yamaguchi – “Shinchishirin” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

As it had been 12 years since Ai Yamaguchi’s last solo exhibition in New York City, the level of expectation and excitement for her return was understandably high. Even so, Shinchishirin at the Joshua Liner Gallery, which opened May 8th, far exceeds those high expectations, and is arguably one of the artist’s finest bodies of work to date. The imagery in the show is instantly recognizable as Yamaguchi, with her characteristic Edo-era courtesans depicted in a style which is at once based in traditional Japanese […]

Update: Conor Harrington

It looks like the Lazarides Gallery recently stopped by Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) studio to check in on the UK-based painter. What they saw was some amazing new works in progress for his upcoming debut show in New York later this year, presumably a pop up put on by the London-based gallery. Entitled Eat and Delete, the exhibition will include 10-12 large canvases that continues where the Irish artist’s Dead Meat show in London (covered) left off. Take a look at more photos below… Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Opening: Greg “Craola” Simkins – “Good Knight” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

Over the weekend, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery unveiled the latest solo show, titled Good Knight, by artist Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured). Just as his previous show a year ago (covered), this new body of work from the gifted painter brought in a massive crowd (including both fans and established artists like Laurie Lipton, Saber & Dabs Myla) eager to see his latest display of surreal and fantastical imagery. It’s safe to say that his work keeps getting better as time progresses with this exhibition displaying a variety of large and small […]

Openings: Mobstr – Sex, Drugs & Painting Canvases

UK-based artist Mobstr (interviewed) recently launched his solo exhibition Sex, Drugs & Painting Walls Canvases at The Old Truman Brewery in London. Following his public works (covered here), the minimalistic street artist has created black and white canvases with witty text messages, flyers to support a ‘save the trees’ campaign, and a series of installations from dummy spray painters to the re-creation of the artist at work surrounded by a sea of draft messages. Openings: Sam Friedman – “Easy” @ Library Street Collective

One month after his one night show at Kinfolk’s new 94Wythe space in NYC, for which he painted 72 different 12 x 12″ pieces, Sam Friedman opened his solo at the Library Street Collective in Detroit. Titled Easy, the show opened on the 10th of May and featured a new body of work by the young abstract painter. Continuing his ongoing series of works created by using bright colors, the new pieces depict vibrant flora and tropical sunsets. The compelling feel of these imaginary getaways invites the viewer to […]
