Showing: Seth / Pascal Vilcollet @ Galerie Géraldine Zberro

On Thursday, 30th of  January, Galerie Géraldine Zberro in Paris opened a two men show by French artists Julien “Seth” Malland and Pascal Vilcollet. While significantly different in their work practice, background, technique, medium, and imagery, both artists are strongly focused on showing emotions and their view of the world surrounding them –  Seth through his playful, colorful imagery and Vilcollet through his striking realistic portraits and paintings. Strongly influenced by his travels and street work he created all over the globe, Seth has built a recognizable style and […]

Openings: JR x New York City Ballet (Part II)

As seen in our previous feature, artist JR worked both the inside and out of the New York City Ballet’s (NYCB) Lincoln Center home. Now, we give you and detailed look into the main lobby of the storied theater where the French photographer and street artist did what he does best and created an intricate yet massive photographic installation of his famous eye motif. Bringing together the performers of the ballet troupe, JR conducted a intimate photo shoot with the dancers as they worked their malleable bodies […]

Showing: Phlegm – “The Bestiary” @ Howard Griffin Gallery

British artist Phlegm opened his first ever gallery show at Howard Griffin Gallery in Shoreditch on Saturday, the first of February. The Bestiary is entirely a non-commercial exhibition meaning the entire installation was created for the purpose of showing in this space only. The Sheffield-based artist has been working long days since mid December, building the installation, cutting up panels, and creating plaster sculptures that were later painted over in his recognizable style. With his impeccable feel for light and shadow, and  his meticulous, almost obsessive line work, these 3D creations […]

Previews: Bruce Yan – “Brand New” @ G1988 (East)

Tomorrow night (February 1st) at Gallery 1988 (East), designer and illustrator Bruce Yan will be presenting new works featuring his pieces exploring pop culture. Often using clever juxtaposition of silhouettes and iconic imagery that we all are familiar with including films from Hayao Miyazaki, the Seattle-based artist is able to get us to look at things in a new light.   Take a look at more preview images below… Discuss this show here.

Openings: Li Hongbo – “Tools Of Study” @ Klein Sun Gallery

We recently stopped by the Klein Sun Gallery in New York to admire new works from Li Hongbo in a show entitled Tools Of Study. The Chinese artist and former book editor has taken his obsession with paper to new levels with flexible sculptures that bend our perceptions of reality. The faux marble sculptures are made from the unlikely medium and open up like slinkies when stretched. Take a look at more photos from the show below… Discuss Li Hongbo here.

Openings: JR x New York City Ballet (Part I)

Last week, AM attended the New York City Ballet (NYCB) to catch the premiere of the next exhibition in their artist series, this time featuring JR. The French “photograffeur” took the opportunity to transform the Lincoln Center with his imagery both inside and out. Utilizing numerous photo sessions with NYCB’s dancers, JR was able to add a new wrinkle to the storied performance troupe’s performances. First, JR wheatpasted the large glass front facade of the building with the graceful feet of the ballet. Once inside, an exhibition of his […]
