Nike Vault at the STAPLES Center recently launched The Kobe Prelude Experience. For eight weeks, they are showcasing Kobe inspired artwork by different artists, and every Saturday they will unveil a new piece. Each piece is tied to a key moment in Kobe’s career. LA-based artist, Allison “Hueman” Torneros, unveiled the first piece in the eight part series the other night. Nike commissioned her to create a surreal piece inspired by his 81 point game. Dutch painter Chris Berens recently opened his long awaited first ever solo show in Japan at the Megumi Ogita Gallery in Ginza, Tokyo. Nensha was artist’s only show for 2013 and he created a completely new body of for it, which was strongly inspired by Japanese culture, tradition and life style. During Art Basel Week, numerous artists trek to Miami to set up artistic pop-up projects. One of our favorites this year was by the Brooklyn-based Faile and Bast. They brought their nostalgic arcade-based exhibition entitled Deluxx Fluxx to entertain both the eyes and souls of patrons that stopped by their fresh throwback arcade. Mexican-based artist Curiot, and his Philly-based colleague, Nosego, opened their two man show entitled Unknown Elements on 14th of December at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, California. After bringing you a look at MODE 2 (interviewed) prepping works for his show at the Le-Fix Gallery in Copenhagen, we can now bring you the fruits of his labor. Ranging from drawings to full scale paintings, the European legend shared his signature rendering of the female form as well as pieces with references to his graffiti background and experiences. Those who attended the SCOPE Art Fair during Art Basel Week in Miami will have gotten a preview already of Brian Viveros’ (featured) & Dan Quintana’s joint showing opening tomorrow night at Copro Gallery in Los Angeles. Desensitized 13 reprises their collaborative efforts back in 2010 three years later with new work that will give their fans a chance to see a further refinement and evolution of their style. One of the shows we visited during Art Basel Week was Affordable Care, curated by Flaunt Magazine. Held in the Mana Wynwood complex in Miami’s downtown district, this group exhbition explores the contradiction of the words “affordable” and “care”. This pairing of terms in the current world is sort of an oxymoron in a time of digital missives, healthcare glitches, and artistic free-for-all.
